Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra will co-chair the 4th Vietnam-Thailand Joint Cabinet Retreat (JCR) on May 16. This is the first joint Cabinet Retreat of the two countries' Prime Ministers in more than 9 years, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the JCR mechanism between the two countries. Vietnam is the only country with which Thailand has a JCR mechanism.
Vietnam and Thailand established diplomatic relations in August 1976 and upgraded the relationship to Strategic Partnership in 2013. The two countries will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.
Thailand is Vietnam's largest trading partner in ASEAN. Two-way trade turnover in 2024 is expected to reach over 20.2 billion USD, up 6.6% compared to 2023.
