U20 Vietnam entered the match against U20 Iran as the group leader. However, to secure a place in the quarterfinals, coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team needed at least one point. This became a mandatory task for the Southeast Asian representative when in the match at the same time, U20 Australia led U20 Qatar by a large margin right in the first half.
U20 Vietnam 1-3 U20 Iran
Coach Hoang Anh Tuan surprised everyone by not using Nguyen Van Truong and Nguyen Quoc Viet in the starting lineup. U20 Vietnam still entered the game well and played on par with their opponents.
Coach Hoang Anh Tuan's players played confidently and proactively. U20 Vietnam came very close to scoring when Khuat Van Khang's free kick hit the post.
Unfortunately, while playing well, U20 Vietnam conceded a goal from a set piece. Mohammad Hazbavi headed the ball powerfully from close range, making it impossible for goalkeeper Cao Van Binh to block. U20 Vietnam ended the first half behind and temporarily dropped to third place.

U20 Vietnam is not inferior to strong opponents.
After the break, coach Hoang Anh Tuan brought Van Truong and Quoc Viet onto the field to increase the attack. In a situation where they had to score, U20 Vietnam did so right at the beginning of the second half with a goal by Van Khang. However, not long after that, the U20 Vietnam defense revealed a weakness and the opponent took advantage of it successfully.
Saeid Sahaarkhizan scored to put Iran U20 ahead for the second time. Vietnam U20 was once again put in a difficult position.
Van Khang and his teammates tried their best to attack for the rest of the match. However, their efforts in a state of poor physical condition were not enough to help U20 Vietnam equalize. Not only that, when coach Hoang Anh Tuan's players pushed up their formation to attack, U20 Iran took advantage of the space to score another goal in extra time.
Losing 1-3 to U20 Iran, U20 Vietnam was regrettably eliminated from the 2023 U20 Asian Cup. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team had the same points as U20 Australia and U20 Iran and were only behind on secondary index.
