Connecting ports and industrial parks
In recent years, logistics companies have taken full advantage of the infrastructure and connection to Cai Mep-Thi Vai port. A typical example is Ashton Furniture Consolidation Co., Ltd., a logistics company specializing in furniture from the US. In 2022, the company built a bonded warehouse in Phu My 3 Specialized Industrial Park, just a few minutes away from the port. With a convenient location, businesses can easily access containers, minimizing time and costs for export activities.
“The bonded warehouse near the port helps us save on transportation costs and time. In addition, the industrial park also has many partners to support business development,” said Mr. Simpson Jr. Robert Allan, CEO of the company.
Not only the interior sector, the paper manufacturing sector is also taking full advantage of the port infrastructure. Kraft of Asia Paperboard & Packaging Co., Ltd. (Japan) has invested in building a paper factory to meet the large annual import and export demand. Mr. Takeshi Shiromaru, Deputy General Director of the company, said that enterprises need to import large quantities of scrap and export goods to many countries. Convenient port services are a decisive factor for business activities.
The stories of these enterprises clearly reflect the importance of building a linked seaport industrial ecosystem, where industrial parks and seaports complement each other, helping to create a solid "foothold" and attract investment.
Currently, the province has 13 industrial parks operating with more than 600 projects in the fields of heavy, light and supporting industries. In particular, most enterprises in these industrial parks have a need to use seaport services, helping to shorten transportation time and costs. Thanks to the planning of industrial parks around the port, this area has become an attractive destination for domestic and foreign investors.
The combination of industrial parks and transport infrastructure around Cai Mep port has brought remarkable results. By 2024, the total volume of goods passing through Cai Mep-Thi Vai port will reach nearly 102 million tons, an increase of 25% compared to 2023. Of which, container cargo increased by 37%, demonstrating the strong growth of the logistics industry. These figures not only reflect the remarkable development of the logistics industry but also demonstrate the success of the combination model between industrial parks and seaports in creating a solid "footing". |
Transport infrastructure connecting to seaports
In addition to developing industrial parks, the province also focuses on investing in transport infrastructure, creating strong connections between Cai Mep-Thi Vai port and key economic areas. Important transport projects such as Bien Hoa-Vung Tau expressway, 991B, Phuoc An bridge, and the railway system connecting Cai Mep port with economic areas inside and outside the province will create a synchronous transport system, reduce transportation costs and improve competitiveness.
According to Mr. Le Ngoc Khanh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, the completion of highways and traffic connections will create great advantages for businesses in transporting goods, improving the efficiency of logistics operations, helping to increase the value of import and export services through Cai Mep port.
From an expert’s perspective, Mr. Tran Chi Dung, General Secretary of the Vietnam Logistics Services Association, said that the completion of the transport connection will significantly improve logistics activities in the region. Specifically, the above projects will reduce transportation time and costs, facilitating businesses in importing and exporting goods.
This will help businesses expand their markets, optimize their supply chains, and improve their competitiveness. In addition, the development of a synchronous transportation system will attract more investors to industrial parks around the port, creating great opportunities for the sustainable development of the logistics industry and the economy of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
