Feel more secure using food with the "Responsible Green Tick"

At the launching ceremony of the program “Green Tick for e-commerce responsibility”, held in Ho Chi Minh City on June 20, Mr. Nguyen Nguyen Phuong, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, said that the program took place at a very “hot” time, when Ho Chi Minh City and many other places are preparing to implement a 2-level government model.

The idea of the "Responsible Green Tick" program comes from the fact that the goods control stage, the final stage before the product reaches the consumer, still faces many difficulties.

Previously, the authorities started to implement traceability of pork and received strong reactions from people in the West, who said it caused trouble.

Only when the authorities explain and cite health benefits for their children if they accidentally consume poor quality food while studying and living in Ho Chi Minh City, will the implementation of the traceability process be better coordinated.

According to Mr. Nguyen Nguyen Phuong, the supply chain of goods is very long, if just one link in this chain is broken, or there is carelessness or irresponsibility, it will cause serious consequences. Besides, if there is intentional wrongdoing and proactive response, detection and handling will encounter many difficulties.

Since March 2024, the “Responsible Green Tick” program in the traditional retail system has been implemented, with the participation of 11 large distribution corporations and hundreds of manufacturing enterprises. During the pilot period, the program received many positive responses from the people.

Ms. Thanh Tam (living in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) said that in the past, her family also paid attention to buying products with full information on the packaging. But after a period of use, they found that the product quality was not the same as the notes. This is very worrying.

Therefore, recently, her family has prioritized using foods with a "green tick" so that when scanned, they can know exactly what the product is like.

Similarly, Mr. Mai Thanh Luan (living in Binh Tan district) said that products with a "green tick" make him feel more secure because they can clearly trace their origin and source, making them safer for consumers.

Thousands of "fake" products sneak through e-commerce platforms

The Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City said that it is time to strengthen screening and control of "blue tick responsibility" activities, as well as deploy them in a very hot field: e-commerce.

According to statistics, in the past 5 years, Vietnam has been recognized as one of the fastest growing e-commerce markets in Southeast Asia.

But along with this boom is a rapid increase in commercial fraud, false advertising, counterfeit goods, and exploitation of celebrities for personal gain.

Through inspection and examination, the authorities have discovered thousands of products of unknown origin and of poor quality still infiltrating e-commerce platforms; some influential people in the community (KOC) have helped promote substandard products.

In addition, consumers are "blind" to information, deceived by pre-made images and advertising content; legitimate businesses are forced into unfair competition, overwhelmed by poor quality goods.

The consequences are not only economic damage and loss of trust, but also the risk of losing control in consumer protection, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children and consumers in remote areas.

The program "Green Tick for E-commerce Responsibility" is implemented based on innovative thinking in management, using market power, community voice and trust spreading mechanism to regulate behavior.

According to the authorities, "Blue Tick for E-commerce Responsibility" operates according to the "3 self" principle: voluntary - self-commitment - self-monitoring.

Specifically, the management agency plays a leading and coordinating role; consumers play a critical and monitoring role; e-commerce platforms and businesses make commitments and take responsibility before the community.
