However, Director of the Department of Health Le Quang Trung also shared the fact that the current health sector inspection force is quite thin, while the number of drugstores and pharmacies in the province is dense, making it difficult to control fake drugs at private drugstores and pharmacies.

Previously, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police had dismantled a large-scale production and trading ring of fake modern medicine and bone and joint medicine nationwide. From 2021 until their arrest, the subjects had smuggled a large amount of fake medicine into the market, earning nearly 200 billion VND . The authorities seized nearly 10 tons of medicine and raw materials for making fake medicine, including 21 types of medicine and many chemicals and additives used in production.

Regarding this case, according to the Ministry of Health, the current preliminary report shows that all counterfeit drugs are not licensed for circulation. The subjects counterfeited the labels of drugs that were licensed for circulation. Of the 17 types of counterfeit products that Thanh Hoa Police seized, the subjects invented the drug names and production locations to print on the labels, deceiving consumers.

Meanwhile, all drugs that want to enter hospitals must have sufficient documents and certificates to participate in centralized bidding. According to the Drug Administration (Ministry of Health), these counterfeit products are mainly sold online and at retail channels.

In recent times, the Ministry of Health has coordinated with units to proactively implement the work of preventing counterfeit goods, and has issued many documents directing the People's Committees, Health Departments of provinces and cities and units to strengthen inspection and supervision of drug quality; regularly coordinate with functional agencies to fight against counterfeit drugs and drugs of unknown origin. The rate of counterfeit drugs in recent years has been below 0.1%.

However, regarding this incident, the Ministry of Health has issued a document directing local health departments to strengthen inspection and supervision of drug quality and coordinate with functional forces in the fight against counterfeit drugs.

Therefore, Dong Nai Department of Health also recommends that pharmacies and drug stores must have full invoices and documents and strictly enter data into the national database system. In addition, when buying medicine, people must have a prescription, get a full invoice and promptly report to the Department of Health or competent authorities when discovering establishments selling drugs that do not ensure quality, fake goods, etc.
