Lilo & Stitch Disney's fun early summer 2025 production

Lilo & Stitch is a fun and heartwarming family drama.

Lilo & Stitch (directed by Chris Sanders, Dean DeBlois) is one of the most prominent animated films of Walt Disney Pictures released in 2002. After 23 years, Disney released a live-action version directed by Dean Fleischer Camp. Producer Daniel Baptista of The Movie Podcast said that the film "created the biggest surprise of the year".

Family

Set in the beautiful Hawaiian islands, the film brings a nostalgic and modern atmosphere when it is renewed with the utmost respect for the original. Little Lilo lives with her older sister Nani (played by Sydney Agudong) and wishes for a best friend to help her feel less bored because she has difficulty making friends at school. She accidentally finds a blue-haired puppy in a pet farm and names him Stitch. In fact, Stitch is a strange creature from another planet, possessing super strength and intelligence but is being hunted by its creator, Jumba - a megalomaniacal scientist in the Galactic Federation.

The sisterly relationship between Nani and Lilo is also the content that helps the film bring family and emotional bonds between relatives. Raising a "rebellious" younger sister is a great pressure for Nani, especially when Nani falls into unemployment and has difficulty proving that she is qualified to take good care of her younger sister.

The spirit of “ohana” – meaning family in Hawaiian – is mentioned many times in the film to emphasize the good traditional standards of family. Lilo tells her sister Nani: “Our family may not be perfect, but family means no one gets left behind.”

With its fantastical sci-fi elements and messages about family, sacrifice and growing up, Lilo & Stitch is not only suitable for children but also for adults. Variety magazine praised: “The live-action version of Lilo & Stitch brings a wave of nostalgia, lots of laughter and heartwarming moments. This may be Disney's best remake yet.”

The friendship between animal-loving Lilo and mischievous, “naughty” Stitch creates the emotional path of the story. Their personalities develop through many everyday events. Lilo always protects her only friend. Stitch, from a character who mostly only brings trouble, is ready to sacrifice himself to save Lilo and create emotions for the audience.

Family affection helps Nani and Lilo sympathize with each other to overcome difficulties. Meanwhile, Lilo becomes the one to teach Stitch about love and good habits. In her first time acting in a movie, Maia Kealoha played the character of Lilo well - an enthusiastic girl with a rich imagination and a somewhat "rebellious" personality and often gets into trouble.

The alien Stitch is created by meticulous, realistic CGI visual effects, naturally conquering the audience with its cuteness and uniqueness: deer ears, dog nose, seal-like eyes, koala body shape but emotions expressed close to humans. The interaction between Lilo and Stitch is the key factor, showing that both are adorable and emotionally attached.
