cooperated with STP Group Joint Stock Company to organize a workshop on building a closed value chain of carrageenan towards sustainable export.
At the workshop, experts from the STP Institute of Marine Research and Aquaculture and the Marine Research Institute shared with marine farmers of the Van Don Marine Farming Association Basic knowledge of seaweed farming in the North. Accordingly, seaweed is suitable for farming in clean seawater areas with good flow, not affected by freshwater flow from the shore to the seawater to avoid seaweed from being covered with mud and impurities; suitable salinity and brightness.
Carrageenan can be grown 3 times a year from March to January. The period from December to February every year due to the low temperature in the North is not suitable for growing carrageenan, but mainly focuses on preserving and growing the breed. The method of growing seaweed can be by trellis or mesh bag and intercropping model with oysters.
Within the framework of the program, delegates directly surveyed the actual seaweed farming model in Van Don, accessed green HDPE infrastructure solutions, circular farming techniques and facilities for on-site processing and preservation transferred by STP Group Joint Stock Company.
The program aims to share practical knowledge with marine farming households in Van Don about modern seaweed farming techniques, preliminary processing - preservation - traceability processes. This is also an important initial step in the process of converting traditional farming models to green, high-tech, export-standard circular models. At the same time, it contributes specifically to realizing the orientations of Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW and Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo in promoting the development of high-tech marine farming and sustainable marine economy.
