Con Dao airport planning needs international advice

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam noted that Vietnam has no precedent for implementing large-scale sea-encroaching airports, so it needs experienced international consultants. At the same time, the acceptance of sponsored products must comply with Decree 05/2021/ND-CP, which does not restrict the form of investment or future airport exploitation. Because the airport is located on an island district, the planning scheme must take into account technical solutions for sea-encroaching construction and fully assess the impact on the marine environment.

The Civil Aviation Authority assessedSun Group 's sponsorship proposal as appropriate, but the sponsor must select a qualified consulting unit and coordinate closely with relevant agencies during the planning process.

In the context of limited budget, the Department recommended that the Ministry of Construction consider accepting sponsored products. Sun Group previously proposed upgrading Con Dao airport to level 4E, with a capacity of 2 million passengers/year by 2030, with the ability to receive wide-body aircraft and international flights. Sun Group committed to sponsoring the planning completely voluntarily, without conditions.
