Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan received a delegation from the Lao Engineering Department.

On the afternoon of May 19, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense , Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA), received a delegation from the Engineering Department/General Staff of the Lao People's Army led by Major General Viengxay Xaysamone, Director of the Department, on the occasion of a working visit to Vietnam.

Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan emphasized that the senior leaders of the two countries always attach importance to preserving and consolidating the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in all circumstances and always wish to cultivate this already good relationship to become even better. Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan assessed that bilateral defense cooperation has been continuously consolidated, developed comprehensively and effectively in recent times, and is one of the important pillars of the Vietnam-Laos relationship. During the "Vietnam-Laos, Laos-Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022", the two countries' Defense Ministries have successfully coordinated to organize many activities in various forms.

Major General Viengxay Xaysamone informed Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan of the results of the delegation's previous meeting with the Engineering Corps. Accordingly, the two sides discussed, evaluated and agreed on many cooperation contents such as: exchanging delegations, improving capacity, sharing experiences in overcoming the consequences of post-war bombs and mines....

Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan highly appreciated the results of the meeting and supported both sides to increase experience sharing in selecting, training, and educating engineering forces, rescuing collapsed structures, and building bridges and roads. Emphasizing that the Vietnamese Engineering Force is the core force in detecting and handling bombs and mines, supporting victims, andeducating people to prevent and avoid bomb and mine accidents, Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan suggested that both sides study and increase cooperation in sharing experience in overcoming the consequences of bombs and mines after the war.

Mainstream of Vietnam-Laos defense cooperation

In the context of the upcoming first Vietnam-Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to Vietnam Sengphet Houngboungnuang and Colonel Vongxay Inthakham, Defense Attaché of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to Vietnam, both expressed their belief that this event will open a new chapter in defense cooperation between the two countries.
