Trung Son Hydropower Plant ensures electricity supply during extreme weather events

Faced with extreme climate developments, the possibility of localized and prolonged heat waves, low water flow to hydroelectric reservoirs, and forecasts that the power system load will continue to increase during the peak months of the dry season in 2024, from the beginning of the year, Trung Son Hydropower Plant has actively implemented solutions to ensure power supply operations.

Implementing the instructions of Power Generation Corporation 2, from the beginning of 2024, Trung Son Hydropower Company Limited (TSHPCo) has focused on production, arranging leaders and shifts during the New Year and Lunar New Year 2024. The unit also made a plan to ensure power supply for the 2024 dry season and holidays in 2024.

The operation of Trung Son Hydropower Reservoir is carried out according to the 10-day plan. Based on the forecast of the average water flow to the reservoir in the next 10 days and the current water level, the operating unit will flexibly adjust the operation of the reservoir, so that the water level at the corresponding times is not lower than the value specified in the operation process of the Ma River basin inter-reservoir approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 214/QD-TTg dated February 13, 2018. At the same time, the unit also coordinates with local agencies and the National Power System Control Center (A0) to ensure effective exploitation of the reservoir water, optimizing power generation as well as providing water for downstream areas.

TSHPCo is also strengthening regular inspection and supervision of management, operation, maintenance, repair, and preparation of reserve fuel for diesel generators, ensuring safe, continuous and reliable operation, contributing to overcoming difficulties with Power Generation Corporation 2 and EVN, providing sufficient electricity for socio -economic development and people's daily life. Along with that, the unit thoroughly instructs the operating force to comply with the operating procedures, strictly implement the dispatching orders of the National System Dispatch Center in operating the generator set to ensure safety for downstream at all times and situations.

TSHPCo representative said: The plant is also closely following the requirements on technical and economic indicators, source operation plan, ensuring good indicators on availability factor, self-consumption rate of the plant, maintenance and repair shutdown rate, shutdown rate due to hydropower plant incidents, power plant incident rate, and terminal power output. Since the beginning of 2024, Trung Son Hydropower Plant has not had any generator incidents affecting the power supply, with electricity production reaching 53.98 million kWh, and the plant's availability factor reaching 97.6%.

In addition to operational inspection, the company pays special attention to maintenance and repair work. Maintenance work is urgently carried out to ensure that the units meet the demand for power supply to the system. Recently, maintenance work on units H1, H3, H4 was completed as planned from February 1 to February 25. Unit H2 is also expected to undergo maintenance from March 1 to March 7 to promptly fix any unusual equipment defects, in order to meet economic and technical criteria, ensuring power generation operations.
