On the afternoon of September 14, Nguyen Thuy Linh lost the women's singles final of the Vietnam Open 2025 to Cai Yanyan (China). Although she could not win the title for the fourth consecutive time, Thuy Linh said she had given her all and had no regrets about her performance.
The final match at Nguyen Du Stadium took place with a dramatic scenario. Facing Cai Yanyan, who was ranked 14th in the world and was on the way to regaining form after injury, Thuy Linh faced a real challenge.
After two tight sets, the Chinese player won with a score of 21-17 and 23-21, thereby becoming the new champion of the tournament.
Despite the unfortunate failure right at the threshold of history, Nguyen Thuy Linh still maintains an optimistic spirit.
Sharing after the match, she said: "This is a journey full of pride. Myself, the coaching staff as well as everyone who watched knew that today's match was not easy. I think I fought until the end and I have no regrets or remorse."
Thuy Linh suffered a narrow defeat against Cai Yanyan
Thuy Linh frankly admitted her opponent's level, saying that Cai Yanyan was better at key moments. "My opponent played better, maybe he was more courageous at the decisive moments. In the final stages, he made fewer mistakes than me. Most of the decisive points he won were due to my mistakes."
The tennis player from Phu Tho considers this a valuable lesson.
When asked if she had "lost herself", Thuy Linh did not completely agree. She analyzed: "It's not really a loss. In a top match, whoever is better will be the final winner. Today, my opponent did that."

Thuy Linh's journey will continue with the upcoming China Master tournament: "Participating in the China Master is also to make up for the points lost in this tournament and to try to maintain my position on the world rankings. I will continue this series of competitions, without stopping, and at the same time accumulate points for further goals such as the SEA Games," Thuy Linh affirmed.
