Before the Coppa Italia final, both teams faced each other in Serie A. In this match, Milan came from behind against Bologna at San Siro to close the gap with their opponents to 2 points in the Serie A standings. Therefore, the Milan team confidently headed to the final to lift the championship trophy. However, once again, the Rossoneri missed the Coppa Italia.

While AC Milan have won five titles, the last time the Rossoneri won was in 2003, Bologna have only won twice, most recently in 1974. This season's Coppa Italia final is the 15th Coppa Italia clash between Bologna and Milan, with the Rossoneri leading with six wins to Bologna's four. In this clash, Bologna will pay off their recent debt to AC Milan, when at San Silo, the Rossoneri shattered Bologna's dream of a second consecutive Champions League appearance.

The final match on the night of May 14th took place in accordance with the nature of a championship match, the action on the field was very tight and there was little space for both teams to exploit. AC Milan had better possession of the ball than their opponents, however the Rossoneri were completely deadlocked by Bologna's tight defense. On the other hand, Bologna accepted the "underdog" position and organized a tight defense, blocking all of the Rossoneri's attacks. Along with that, Bologna organized counter-attacks when there was an opportunity and had many dangerous plays for the opponent.

In a tight game with few exciting situations, Bologna broke the deadlock with the opening goal in the 53rd minute, when Ndoye unleashed a dangerous shot past goalkeeper Mike Maignan. With nothing to lose, AC Milan fought back strongly and had good chances but could not score. The match ended with a 1-0 victory for Bologna.

A resounding victory over a formidable opponent who had just defeated them a few days ago could be considered a miracle for a “little-known” team like Bologna. However, it was a worthy victory for a team that fought bravely against a great opponent. With this victory, Bologna has won the Coppa Italia title after a 51-year wait. Congratulations to the new king: Bologna.
