Coach Mai Duc Chung 'spotted' midfielder Nam Mi
Overseas Vietnamese midfielder Nguyen Hoang Nam Mi (born in 2003, currently living in Canada) was signed by Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club in April 2025 to prepare for the Asian Cup C1 semi-final match against Wuhan Jiangda Club.
The Ho Chi Minh City women's team has proposed to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to allow Nam Mi to practice with the Vietnam women's team, while waiting to join the Ho Chi Minh City women's team to compete in China. Coach Mai Duc Chung agreed, in the context that the Vietnam women's team is also waiting for a new element to upgrade their playing style.

After 3 days of observing Nam Mi practicing and integrating with the team, coach Mai Duc Chung decided to officially give the player born in 2003 a place in the national team in this training session. According to Mr. Chung, Nam Mi has potential and can be honed in the Vietnam women's team. The 22-year-old midfielder is like a "rough diamond" with many opportunities to improve her technical and tactical skills.
Nam Mi was born in 2003 in Ottawa (Canada), 1.67 m tall. She is a student at the University of Saskatchewan and plays for this school team as a defender and defensive midfielder. In 2024, Nam Mi was honored in the typical lineup of the Western Canada school tournament. Unlike other Vietnamese-American players such as Ashley Ton That Tram Anh or Chelsea Le, Nam Mi already has Vietnamese nationality. She completed the naturalization procedure while still in Canada.
In the semi-final of the Asian Cup 1, Nam Mi was not selected to start. The Ho Chi Minh City women's team lost 0-2 to Wuhan Jiangda, winning third place in Asia.
