Mr. Le Van Mui, Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Vientiane, said that my parents migrated to Laos to live with their family in 1946. At that time, my father was still very young. I myself was born and raised in Laos. But deep down, I always consider myself Vietnamese. The Vietnamese soul is not naturally formed but is cultivated over years in each family. For example, my parents taught me to speak Vietnamese when I go home, regardless of any activity, from inviting the elderly to dinner, to discussing daily work. Therefore, Vietnamese is the emotional connection between us and our homeland, even though our family has been living abroad for many years. The same goes for our children and grandchildren, we keep the Vietnamese language and customs that previous generations brought over. Later, when I retired, I joined the work of the Vietnamese Association in Vientiane. From my experience, I spread to my compatriots in preserving Vietnamese culture and Vietnamese language.
In recent years, Nguyen Du School has been built to teach Lao-Vietnamese bilingualism. The school has about 30% Vietnamese children and has now become a famous school with good teaching and learning quality. From the school's activities, the movement to preserve the Vietnamese language has spread even more strongly. Therefore, to preserve Vietnamese culture in your country, I hope that the Vietnamese government will pay more attention to supporting the Vietnamese community so that we can have more conditions to connect with our homeland. Regarding community work, I have gone through two terms of work and I always keep in mind how to unite the community better, more practically so that people can turn to the Fatherland.
