On March 28, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Sports Administration held a workshop to contribute ideas to the development program of key sports participating in the Olympics and ASIAD in the period 2026-2046.
Accordingly, the Program for developing key sports to participate in the Olympics and ASIAD in the period 2026-2046 is built on the evaluation of all high-performance sports, especially those regularly competed in the ASIAD and Olympic programs.
In the coming time, the Vietnam Sports Administration will carefully consider the sports expected to be selected for key investment.
Through analysis, evaluation and review, the program's drafting committee has proposed 17 key sports, all of which are potential and capable of winning medals at the Olympic and ASIAD arenas.
At the Workshop, the Organizing Committee received many comments from leading experts. Many of these comments focused on solutions to improve the effectiveness of investment in sports, especially key sports.
According to the assessment of the drafting committee and experts, investment resources such as facilities, human resources, finance... are currently still very limited to spread evenly across 17 sports as planned.
In particular, expert Nguyen Hong Minh said that the sports industry needs to review and re-evaluate the entire system to determine which sports are truly capable of competing for medals at the Olympics and ASIAD. Thereby, boldly cutting down on sports that do not have advantages and focusing investment on sports with the most potential.
In fact, some subjects that were once considered key but are no longer highly competitive may have to be adjusted or removed from the priority list. This requires a long-term strategy, based on scientific and practical criteria, instead of just chasing short-term results.
In an interview with the media after the workshop, Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration Dang Ha Viet commented that most of the opinions contributed at the workshop were very correct and accurate, but from another perspective, the opinions were quite contradictory. Because the top achievement at the SEA Games is the Olympic sport, this is extremely difficult. Even the sports that are identified as key have key contents.
Taking the example of some Taekwondo and Weightlifting sports, Director Dang Ha Viet said that in these sports, the Sports and Physical Training sector only focuses on light weight events (suitable for the physical condition of Vietnamese people). These events only have about 10 events in the Olympic arena and nearly 20 events in the ASIAD arena, but in reality, the capable athletes only focus on 2-3 events that can compete for medals. Other events also do not have enough resources to invest widely.
But in some other sports such as Athletics, Swimming, it is possible to solve the problem of increasing the number of key investments... Basically, it also depends on each sport to be able to make appropriate calculations, invest correctly, and achieve efficiency.
"The Vietnam Sports Administration will consider very carefully, especially in the 17 sports expected to be selected for key investment, there will be a review and re-evaluation to determine the focus and key investment points to achieve the best results" - Director Dang Ha Viet said./.
