Discovered the insect that causes hundreds of people to have allergic dermatitis

Recently, in Phuc Thanh village (Thach Khe commune, Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh province), there have been a series of cases of local people suffering from allergic dermatitis, suspected to be caused by insect bites. People are worried because even though they have gone to the doctor, the treatment has not been successful. According to preliminary statistics, there are 46 households with 126 people showing symptoms: central serous papules with bite marks, skin scratches, dark scars from scratching, rubbing concentrated in exposed skin areas such as: forearms, calves, around the waistband; many people have it all over their body, affecting their health and quality of life.

Immediately after the incident, the Ha Tinh Health Department coordinated with specialized agencies to directly go to the locality to monitor the epidemic; catch insects, identify the type and deploy technical activities to destroy insects and handle the source of the disease. During the inspection, the specialized agency also monitored and discovered a species of insect with reddish-brown color, small body like a grain of rice, 6 legs, 2 long hind legs, wings to fly, clinging everywhere, both inside the house and in the yard, garden, clinging to animals, objects, people to bite and sting.

Many people are worried about allergic dermatitis.

The CDC Ha Tinh Center sent samples to the Central Institute of Malaria - Parasitology - Entomology to confirm the species and take steps to determine the cause. The results returned, the unit determined that the people of Phuc Thanh village had dermatitis caused by flea bites. This is a species of flea that specializes in biting and sucking the blood of animals such as dogs and cats... they often live in places with high animal density. When food sources are lacking, they will switch to biting and sucking human blood. Fleas often invade wall niches, beds, cabinets, corners of the house, bite people at night and do not like light. People bitten by fleas will itch at the site, scratching a lot can cause secondary dermatitis or can transmit dangerous diseases such as rash fever, plague...
The Ha Tinh CDC said it has provided professional and technical guidance for localities to implement measures to prevent blood-sucking fleas on humans, such as killing fleas with chemicals, implementing environmental sanitation, and personal hygiene to prevent flea bites. It is especially recommended that people strictly implement measures to prevent flea bites on humans and livestock; when experiencing symptoms of itchy rashes caused by insect bites, they should go to medical facilities for timely examination and treatment.

Currently, the Ha Tinh Health Department continues to investigate households with sick people, isolate areas to spray chemicals to kill insects; closely monitor to detect early developments of the epidemic situation.
