Liverpool lose to Chelsea after winning the title
In round 35 of the Premier League, Liverpool visited Chelsea, who had officially won the championship in the previous round. Coach Arne Slot left many important players, but still left some stars such as Van Dijk, Salah, Alexander-Arnold... on the field.
Liverpool did not have an effective game, though. They still had a lot of possession (65%), but had fewer shots than Chelsea (11 compared to 17).
And most importantly, in terms of goals, they also lost to their opponents. It took Chelsea only 3 minutes to open the score against Liverpool's defense. Enzo Fernandes was the one who entered the penalty area and scored in an open position.
Chelsea's second goal came in the 56th minute when they created a chaotic situation in the Liverpool penalty area. Van Dijk was the one to clear the ball but it hit teammate Quansah and went back into the net.
It wasn't until the 85th minute that Van Dijk was able to make amends with a header to reduce the score to 1-2. But Chelsea still came away with 3 points when Cole Palmer sealed a 3-1 victory in the 90+6 minute.
This victory helps Chelsea temporarily enter the top 5 with 63 points and hope to win a ticket to the Champions League next season.
