Cambodian province proposes to open border gates until 8:00 p.m. to facilitate import and export to Vietnam.

In the first 8 months of the year, the total import-export turnover through An Giang - Kandal and Takeo provinces was nearly 900 million USD. Takeo province leaders proposed that An Giang open until 8:00 p.m. to facilitate import-export businesses.

On September 19, the People's Committee of An Giang province held a conference to discuss, agree on and implement the Vietnam - Cambodia Border Trade Agreement between An Giang province (Vietnam) and Kandal and Takeo provinces (Cambodia) in Tinh Bien ward.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Le Trung Ho - Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee - said that in the first 8 months of 2025, the total import-export turnover through border gates between An Giang province and Kandal province is estimated to reach nearly 500 million USD, between An Giang province and Takeo province is estimated to reach nearly 400 million USD.

This is a very positive result, demonstrating the close and effective cooperation between border provinces in facilitating the transportation of goods through border gates, thereby promoting border economic growth and contributing to improving the lives of border residents.

At the conference, Takeo province leaders proposed that Vietnam could close the border gate later than the current regulation of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, because the amount of goods from the border to the Vietnamese border gate going in and out sometimes goes later than the regulation.

"I understand that the Tay Ninh border gate area closes at around 9pm to make it easier for businesses from both countries to transport goods. Because the distance from our border gate to the Vietnamese border gate is about 2km, goods (especially rice) from Cambodia to Vietnam are sometimes delayed. If we could, we would be allowed to do so until 8pm every day," Mr. Ly Savet, Deputy Governor of Takeo Province, suggested.

However, An Giang province leaders said that An Giang and Takeo need to comply with the Vietnam - Cambodia Border Trade Agreement on the clearly stipulated time and cannot do otherwise. An Giang will accept this opinion to assign the relevant departments to study and implement it in accordance with the regulations.

At the end of the conference, the three provinces signed a memorandum of understanding, including An Giang - Kandal and An Giang - Takeo provinces, to allow and facilitate the exit and entry of vehicles of the two countries to be temporarily imported and re-exported at border gates to deliver and receive goods in the border gate areas of the two countries and return to the country on the same day.

Facilitating vehicles exiting and entering border gate areas must ensure compliance with the laws on border trade activities of each country.

If there are any changes in regulations related to Vietnam-Cambodia border trade, the provinces must promptly notify each other in writing to coordinate in finding solutions and implementing them most effectively.

For vehicles exiting and entering the country to transport goods out of the border gate areas of the two provinces, it is necessary to comply with the Protocol implementing the Road Transport Agreement between Vietnam and Cambodia and the Protocol on amending the Protocol implementing the Road Transport Agreement between Vietnam and Cambodia...
