Thua Thien-Hue province promotes cooperation with Laos' Savannakhet province

Receiving the Secretary and Governor of Savannakhet Province (Laos), Secretary of the Thua Thien- Hue Provincial Party Committee Le Truong Luu suggested that in the coming time, the two sides continue to effectively implement the contents of the Cooperation Agreement for the 2022-2026 period.

On September 5, a high-ranking delegation of Savannakhet province, Lao People's Democratic Republic, led by Secretary and Governor of Savannakhet province Bounchom Oubonpaseuth, paid a working visit to Thua Thien-Hue province. At the meeting, the two sides reported and assessed the achievements in socio -economic development, Party building, and government building of the two provinces; and mid-term assessment of the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement for the period 2022-2026 between the two provinces. Secretary of the Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Party Committee Le Truong Luu informed that in the first 8 months of 2024, the province's socio-economic situation had developed; GRDP growth rate reached 6.01%; total social investment capital reached over 14,100 billion VND; budget revenue reached over 6,000 billion VND. The fields of culture, society, health, education, science and technology have achieved many outstanding results. National defense, security and social order and safety have been maintained.

Party building and political system building have had many positive changes. In particular, the relationship between Thua Thien-Hue province and Lao localities, including Savannakhet province, continues to be strengthened and developed well, increasingly close, trustworthy, effective and practical. The Secretary of the Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Party Committee suggested that in the coming time, the two sides continue to effectively implement the contents of the Cooperation Agreement for the period of 2022-2026; strengthen political and diplomatic cooperation, improve the effectiveness of cooperation in all fields, especially tourism, trade and investment. The two sides effectively exploit the East-West economic corridor of Thailand-Laos-Vietnam; study support policies to exploit and use services at Chan May port to diversify the structure of export goods; create favorable conditions for workers to do business and live in Savannakhet province on the basis of compliance with the laws and regulations of the locality. Secretary and Governor of Savannakhet Province Bounchom Oubonpaseuth expressed his joy and appreciation for the results of friendly cooperation between the two localities as well as the support in many aspects of Thua Thien-Hue Province for Savannakhet in the past time. Secretary and Governor Bounchom Oubonpaseuth hopes that in the coming time, the two localities will continue to promote cooperation in various fields. Thua Thien-Hue Province supports the development of agricultural and rural production; calls on enterprises in the agricultural sector to invest in Savannakhet Province; strengthens links to develop tourism. Savannakhet Province always creates favorable conditions for Vietnamese workers, including those from Thua Thien-Hue Province, to work in the locality. In recent times, on the basis of the Cooperation Agreement for the 2022-2026 period signed in December 2022, the leaders of the two provinces have strengthened leadership, direction, orientation and assigned tasks to relevant agencies of the two provinces to actively and closely coordinate to effectively implement the contents and programs of the Cooperation Agreement, promote and bring the cooperation between the two provinces increasingly deeper, more substantive and achieve results in all fields. The two sides continue to direct functional sectors to closely coordinate to ensure security and order on the Vietnam-Laos border; making an important contribution to building a peaceful, stable, friendly, cooperative and comprehensively developed Vietnam-Laos border. Cooperation in the fields of education and human resource training, culture and health has made much progress, contributing significantly to the socio-economic development goals of the two localities. Notably, in the field of education and training, from 2002 to present, Thua Thien-Hue has received Vietnamese language training and university and college majors for nearly 1,500 Lao students; of which, there are 248 students from Savannakhet province (currently 35 students are studying in Hue).
