The transportation network still has many shortcomings.
According to a survey by the Center for Applied Research and Engineering Consulting on Foundation Engineering (University of Danang), currently, in Nha Trang City, there are 623 inner-city roads with a total length of more than 400km, mainly concentrated in the city center. Of which, the main urban roads account for about 30% of the total length of urban roads in the city. The shape of the urban road network in many areas has been determined, but the service capacity has not fully met the demand. The city's north-south road network is still small, with traffic concentrated on two axes: Le Hong Phong Street and Pham Van Dong - Tran Phu Street, so during the tourist season and peak hours of the day, there is often traffic congestion.
Ma Vong intersection is relatively complicated due to its proximity to the railway, and needs to be renovated from a level intersection to a grade-separated intersection. |
In addition, the whole city has more than 1,200 intersections. Of which, there are 6 complex intersections, 48 traffic intersections controlled by traffic lights. Most of the intersections are concentrated in the central area with large traffic volume. Some complex intersections have a high risk of causing traffic jams during rush hour. In particular, the intersection of 2/4 - Tran Quy Cap Street has congestion and needs to be reorganized; the intersection of Ma Vong is relatively complex due to being close to the railway and needs to be renovated from a level intersection to a different level intersection; the intersection of Le Hong Phong Street - Road No. 13 - Dong Nai has congestion due to unreasonable arrangement and needs to be readjusted and traffic lights installed...
According to the leader of Nha Trang City People's Committee, in the central area, parallel roads leading to Tran Phu Street such as: Thap Ba Street, Phan Chu Trinh Street, Le Thanh Ton Street, To Hien Thanh Street... as well as the intersections at Ma Vong intersection and neighboring intersections are at high risk of congestion. Main roads such as: Tran Phu Street, April 2 Street, October 23 Street, Vo Van Kiet Street, Le Hong Phong Street are all at risk of congestion. Statistical results show that the current state of the traffic intersection network in Nha Trang still has intersections between main roads and internal roads. This causes a potential risk of serious traffic accidents due to the difference in composition and speed of vehicles running on the intersections. The orientation when planning the future needs to improve and completely eliminate intersections between internal roads and main roads.
Developing transportation worthy of a high-quality tourist center
From the results of analysis and practical assessment, the Center for Applied Research and Technical Consulting on Construction Foundations has proposed the most feasible solutions to solve the current traffic organization problems in Nha Trang City. On Tran Phu Street, the eastern area has not been renovated from now until 2030. For the section of April 2 Square with a large cross-section, it is recommended to separate 1 lane next to the sidewalk for bicycles and motorbikes; continue to divide the traffic on each side of the route into 2 lanes, in which the outermost lane next to the sidewalk is for mixed vehicles, the inner lane next to the median strip is only for cars. At the same time, all types of cars are prohibited from stopping, parking, dropping off and picking up passengers along Tran Phu Street; taxis and Grab vehicles are only allowed to stop and pick up passengers at designated places... In the period of 2030 - 2040, Tran Phu Street will be expanded towards the sea to reach a sidewalk width of 10m; Create a route with 2 lanes dedicated to bicycles interspersed with green spaces; prohibit all types of tourist vehicles from parking during rush hours on the route; allow taxis and grab vehicles to stop and pick up passengers at designated locations...
The intersection of Le Hong Phong Street - Road No. 13 - Dong Nai has congestion due to unreasonable arrangement, it needs to be readjusted and traffic lights installed. |
For October 23rd Street, the consulting unit proposed to arrange 3 lanes on each side. Le Hong Phong Street was proposed to have 2 lanes on each side. To reduce the risk of congestion at the seven-way intersection (Le Thanh Ton - To Hien Thanh - Ngo Gia Tu - Quang Trung - Dinh Tien Hoang - Nguyen Chanh) due to intersections and conflicts in the intersection, the consulting unit proposed to prohibit trucks and passenger cars from entering the seven-way intersection on Le Thanh Ton Street during rush hours...
In addition, the Project on organizing and developing road traffic in Nha Trang City until 2030 and orientation to 2040 also recommends a number of solutions related to static traffic planning, arranging temporary parking lots, public bicycle stations, bus stops, planning underground traffic systems on Tran Phu Street and Vo Nguyen Giap Street connecting to the main axis of Nha Trang airport... At the same time, it is agreed to implement a number of traffic infrastructure development projects of Nha Trang City that have been previously oriented by the province such as: Heritage route connecting Ponagar Tower and Am Chua; tunnel through Cu Hin mountain; D25 road and Vinh Trung flood drainage canal.
The consulting unit recommends that from now until 2030, priority will be given to projects to upgrade and renovate the traffic intersection system, invest in developing the public transport system, and implement the construction of the Tran Phu tunnel through April 2 Square. In the 2031 - 2035 period, the static traffic system will continue to be built and completed with modern, smart underground parking lots, and the Tran Phu road tunnel from Tran Quang Khai to Yersin will be built... In the 2036 - 2040 period, the traffic control system for the entire city will continue to be upgraded and completed, and the entire Tran Phu road tunnel will be completed...
Mr. TRAN HOA NAM - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee: The project on organizing and developing road traffic in Nha Trang City has forecasted traffic demand and proposed the form of organizing traffic on the streets, solutions for organizing and controlling traffic in the city until 2030, with a vision to 2040 to avoid traffic congestion, develop green traffic, and smart traffic. The development of the road traffic system until 2040 is consistent with the role of Nha Trang as a core urban area as determined in Resolution No. 09 of the Politburo on building and developing Khanh Hoa Province until 2030, with a vision to 2045; consistent with the orientation of road traffic development of the province as determined in the Provincial Planning Project, consistent with the orientation of the traffic planning network in the General Planning Project of Nha Trang City until 2040. The Provincial People's Committee has assigned the City People's Committee to... Nha Trang coordinates with relevant departments and branches to organize the implementation of the project to ensure consistency and suitability with the actual situation.
