The whole country has received nearly 20 million units of blood.
In Vietnam, over the past 30 years, the voluntary blood donation movement has gradually spread widely in society and is growing stronger. In 2024, the whole country mobilized and received nearly 1.75 million units of blood, equivalent to over 1.7% of the population participating in blood donation, of which 98% were from voluntary blood donors.
According to the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, this result was achieved thanks to the attention of Party and State leaders; the support of ministries, sectors, organizations, and agencies from the central to local levels; the joint efforts and consensus of generations of cadres and employees of the health sector, the Red Cross Society, volunteers, and the active response of people from all walks of life.
Since 2004, the World Health Organization, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Blood Transfusion Association have chosen June 14 as World Blood Donor Day. The message of this year's World Blood Donor Day is "Donate blood, give hope - Join hands to save lives", emphasizing the profound humanitarian meaning of the act of donating blood to save lives.
Recognizing the noble deeds of exemplary voluntary blood donors across the country, Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan emphasized that the 100 delegates honored this time are those who have been lighting the fire of humanity in the community.
The voluntary blood donation movement in Vietnam in recent times has not only ensured blood supply for emergency and patient treatment, but also deeply spread noble humanitarian and humane values in society. Voluntary blood donation has become a cultural beauty, a living symbol of the spirit of mutual love, of the Vietnamese heart of love and kindness.
Since 2008, when the Prime Minister decided to establish the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, blood donation in Vietnam has so far received nearly 20 million units of blood. In the first months of 2025 alone, through many voluntary blood donation campaigns, the country has received nearly 850,000 units of blood, reaching 50% of the planned target for the whole year of 2025.
