General Secretary begins official visit to Russia and attends 80th anniversary of Victory Day

According to the special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, after successfully concluding the State visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, on the evening of May 8 (local time), the special plane carrying General Secretary To Lam and his wife Ngo Phuong Ly and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived at Vnukovo 2 airport, Moscow, Russia, to begin an official visit to the Russian Federation and attend the 80th anniversary of the Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War from May 8-11, at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Warmly welcoming General Secretary To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation at the airport were Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and a number of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam GSBezdetko and his wife; Vietnamese Ambassador to the Russian Federation Dang Minh Khoi and his wife; a large number of officials and staff of the Embassy and the Vietnamese community in the Russian Federation.

The official welcoming ceremony for General Secretary To Lam and his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation was solemnly held at Vnukovo 2 airport.

General Secretary To Lam and his wife got off the plane and shook hands with officials from the Russian Federation and Vietnam who came to welcome them. Vietnamese Ambassador to the Russian Federation Dang Minh Khoi and his wife presented flowers to General Secretary and his wife Ngo Phuong Ly.

Deputy Prime Minister Chernyshenko accompanied the General Secretary along the red carpet to the place of honor. The head of the Guard of Honor welcomed and reported to General Secretary To Lam. The military band played the national anthems of Vietnam and the Russian Federation. The Guard of Honor marched to the sound of majestic music.

Immediately after the official welcoming ceremony at the airport, General Secretary To Lam left the Prime Minister's Office and met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin; and attended a solemn reception for leaders of countries attending the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The official visit to the Russian Federation and attendance at the 80th Anniversary of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War by General Secretary To Lam and his wife along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation demonstrates Vietnam's respect and honor for the enormous contributions and sacrifices of the former Soviet Union and the Russian Federation today in the great victory against fascism, firmly protecting world peace.

On this occasion, Vietnam wishes to further strengthen political trust between the two countries and identify orientations to bring the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with the Russian Federation to new heights.

During the visit, General Secretary To Lam and the high-ranking delegation of Vietnam will have important meetings with senior leaders of the Russian Federation, thereby creating new impetus in bilateral cooperation in many fields, including traditional cooperation fields and new, potential fields, creating more important driving forces to realize the development goals of the orientation in the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region as well as in the world.
