From early morning, many people gathered outside the Presidential Palace to welcome Chinese President and General Secretary Xi Jinping . People waved the national flags of both countries and enthusiastically greeted Xi Jinping as the Red Flag motorcade carrying the Chinese leader passed by.

The Chinese delegation, in addition to Professor Peng Liyuan, wife of the General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, included many high-ranking officials of the Communist Party of China.
This includes Politburo Standing Committee member and Secretary of the Secretariat, Cai Qi, who also serves as Director of the Central Office, and Politburo member, Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi.
The delegation also included Liu Jianchao, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Head of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China; Jiang Jinquan, Director of the Central Policy Research Office; Cheng Shanjie, Director of the National Development and Reform Commission; Wang Xiaohong, Secretary of the Secretariat, State Councilor, Deputy Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, and Minister of Public Security; and Wang Wentao, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Commerce.
Liu Ning, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of the Party Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; Wang Ning, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of the Party Committee of Yunnan Province; and Xiong Bo, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam, and his wife were also in the delegation.
Also present were Luo Zhaohui, Director of the Bureau of International Development Cooperation; Major General Li Bin, Director of the Central Office for International Military Cooperation; and Nong Rong, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Following a solemn state welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping returned to the Party Central Headquarters for talks.
The two leaders will review and listen to presentations on the signed documents, and then attend a tea party together. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will host a state reception for General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping on the evening of December 12.
