General Secretary: Vietnam is grateful for the sincere help of Russian experts

General Secretary To Lam met with Russian dignitaries, affirming that Vietnam-Russia cooperation and friendship will develop sustainably, towards a bright future.

According to VNA special correspondent, on the morning of May 11, in Moscow, Russia, General Secretary To Lam had a meeting to express gratitude to Russian dignitaries, intellectuals and experts who have helped Vietnam.

At the meeting, the Russian delegates expressed their joy and honor to welcome General Secretary To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation; thanked the Vietnamese leaders and people for their deep affection for their Russian friends; affirmed that they will continue to make efforts to foster and develop the friendship between the people of the two countries, actively contributing to the traditional friendship and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation; and agreed on major directions and measures to strengthen and consolidate the relationship between the two countries.

On behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, General Secretary To Lam congratulated the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, a great historical event for the Russian people and a great milestone in human history; affirming that the indomitable spirit of the Soviet people has become a guiding light, adding strength for the Vietnamese people to overcome countless challenges, reaching the final victory in the resistance war to defend the Fatherland.

Delighted and moved to meet Russian intellectuals and experts who had helped Vietnam, General Secretary To Lam emphasized that with the spirit of “remembering the source when drinking water, remembering the person who planted the tree when eating fruit,” the Vietnamese people always deeply appreciate the great and wholehearted help of Soviet and Russian experts in the struggle for liberation, unification and national construction of Vietnam today.

The General Secretary appreciated the historical works with the support of Soviet and Russian experts such as Hoa Binh Hydroelectric Plant, Thang Long Bridge, Pha Lai Thermal Power Plant... which have become symbols of friendship between the two nations today; thanked the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation for supporting the training of nearly 70,000 Vietnamese cadres over many generations, many of whom have held the highest leadership positions of the Party and State, are core cadres, contributing to laying the foundation for many key scientific and economic sectors and fields of Vietnam, even in the current period.

General Secretary To Lam welcomed the significance of the meeting, which not only helped connect Soviet veterans and experts who had helped the Vietnamese people in the past, but also contributed to strengthening the education of the younger generation to continue preserving and developing the good traditional friendship between the two nations.

The General Secretary emphasized that the common agreements reached through high-level visits and contacts between the two countries in recent times, including the state visit of President Vladimir Putin in June 2024 and the visit of the high-level delegation of the Party and State of Vietnam this time, are strategic orientations and guidelines to bring the cooperation between the two countries to a new stage of development, increasingly in-depth and substantive.

The General Secretary suggested that the two countries further promote economic integration in the coming time, continue to effectively implement cooperation projects in traditional fields, conduct in-depth research on each other's markets to diversify the existing trade portfolio and direct investment to new fields where the two countries have great potential and long-term needs.

The General Secretary hopes that the Vietnam-Russia relationship will become a model of how to turn a large region into a potential development area for all participating countries.

In that spirit, General Secretary To Lam suggested that the two countries promote cooperation in the fields of basic science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, which are the strengths of the Russian Federation and Vietnam, and identify them as breakthroughs to help the country develop, make breakthroughs and become rich in the new era.

General Secretary To Lam hopes that the younger generations of the two countries will follow in the footsteps of their predecessors, inherit the tradition of friendship and make good use of the opportunities that the history of the two countries brings to continue writing golden pages, breathing more vitality and lighting up a bright future for the Vietnam-Russia relationship in the new era, meeting the concerns and expectations of the leaders of the two countries, for the peace and prosperity of the two peoples.
