According to Vzglyad , Russian President Vladimir Putin mentioned and emphasized the importance of the "people's defense industry" for the successes of the Russian army - focusing on technical training for soldiers, manufacturing necessary equipment right at the front.
In September, President Putin revealed that Moscow plans to produce nearly 1.4 million UAVs in 2024, 10 times more than last year, to serve the military campaign in Ukraine.
"About 140,000 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of various types were delivered to the armed forces in 2023. This year, UAV production is expected to increase significantly. More precisely, almost 10 times," the Russian President said at a meeting on UAV production of the Military-Industrial Commission on September 19.
Mr. Putin declared that Russia is making progress "almost every week" in UAV technology and needs to develop a defense system, including sensor technology, jamming and specialized equipment to shoot down UAVs.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict was a turning point for the UAV industry, and a testament to the importance of this equipment in modern warfare.
Both Russia and Ukraine are participating in the UAV development race, adjusting systems to neutralize the opponent's countermeasures, even copying each other to gain an advantage or maintain a balance.
