Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee delivered the opening speech of the forum.

In his opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, said that Can Tho has a strategic position, being a hub in the region with synchronous seaports, international airports and a bustling inland waterway network. This strategic position has been clearly demonstrated in major resolutions and policies of the Party and the State. However, in addition to the positive results achieved, it must be frankly acknowledged that the goal of becoming a modern Logistics Center, a comprehensive hub of the Mekong Delta region is still facing many difficulties and challenges. That is, the city's logistics infrastructure is not yet synchronous, especially the connection of waterways, ports, warehouses and digital technology infrastructure; agricultural logistics services are still limited in receiving, preserving, transporting and clearing goods; most logistics enterprises are small and medium-sized, lacking the capacity to provide full-package services, integrated along the value chain; Some mechanisms and policies are not yet really suitable for the new situation and need to continue to be improved to meet the requirements of regional economic development and the urban consolidation process.

Speakers discussed key issues in a roundtable to find solutions for developing logistics activities in Can Tho city.

“With Can Tho's ambition by 2030 to not only resolve these bottlenecks, but also become an international multimodal “Logistics Hub”, reduce transportation costs and be a key center for supplying deeply processed agricultural products, the city is building a specific action roadmap, determined to implement breakthrough solutions, including: multimodal infrastructure breakthrough; focusing on high-value logistics and committing to creating and protecting businesses” - Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Khoi informed.

Mr. Le Thanh Hoa, Acting Director of the Institute of Socio-Economics of Can Tho City, delivered a keynote speech at the forum.

According to Mr. Le Thanh Hoa, Acting Director of the Institute of Socio-Economics of Can Tho City, after 5 years of implementing and institutionalizing Resolution No. 59 of the Politburo, state management of logistics has received increasing attention, from policy development and promulgation, planning, infrastructure investment, human resource development to creating a favorable investment and business environment, in order to contribute to achieving the socio-economic goals set by the city. Despite many potentials and advantages, logistics development in Can Tho still has certain shortcomings and difficulties. It is expected that the opinions and discussions of delegates at the forum will contribute to clarifying theoretical and practical aspects and suggesting important policies to develop the logistics industry - a key driving force for rapid and sustainable economic growth of Can Tho City.
