Ho Chi Minh City proposes to start school on August 28

On the afternoon of August 3, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the Department has just submitted a plan to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to propose that students of all levels return to school on August 28, and primary school students return to school on August 21. All students from kindergarten to high school will start school on September 5.

Previously, the Ministry of Education and Training approved the timetable for the 2023-2024 school year. Accordingly, the new school year opening day for preschool and general education will take place simultaneously on September 5.

However, localities can let students return to school a week earlier, at the end of August 2023. For first graders in particular, the first day of school can be two weeks earlier than the start of the new school year so that students can get acquainted with the school.

According to the decision, consideration for recognition of completion of primary school program and consideration for recognition of secondary school graduation will be made before June 30, 2024.

The schedule for organizing high school graduation exams and national exams will have a separate plan issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.
