Ho Chi Minh City asks to set off fireworks on New Year's Eve

The city government proposed a 15-minute fireworks display at the Saigon River Tunnel and Dam Sen Cultural Park to celebrate the New Year.

The content has just been sent by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to submit to the Prime Minister for approval to set off fireworks on the occasion of New Year 2024.

Accordingly, the high-altitude fireworks display will be at the beginning of the Saigon River Tunnel (Thu Duc City) and the low-altitude fireworks display will be at Dam Sen Cultural Park (District 11). The display will last 15 minutes, from 0:00 to 0:15 on January 1, 2024; the funding source will be socialized.

Fireworks are a regular activity on major holidays (April 30 and September 2), New Year and Lunar New Year in Ho Chi Minh City to serve residents and tourists, except during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Currently, fireworks are set off in accordance with Decree 36/2009. On New Year's Eve, centrally-run cities and Thua Thien Hue are allowed to set off high-altitude and low-altitude fireworks for no more than 15 minutes. The remaining provinces are allowed to set off low-altitude fireworks for no more than 15 minutes.

On National Day, centrally-run cities and Thua Thien Hue will be allowed to set off high- and low-altitude fireworks at 9:00 p.m. on September 2 for 15 minutes.
On April 30, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will be allowed to set off high and low-altitude fireworks for no more than 15 minutes, at 9 p.m.

In addition, fireworks can be set off on occasions such as: the founding day of provinces and centrally-run cities; national and international cultural, tourism and sports events... Other cases, including New Year's Day, are decided by the Prime Minister.
