On the evening of November 21, the Opening Ceremony of the 24th Vietnam Film Festival and the Ceremony to receive the UNESCO title of Global Creative City in the field of cinema took place at the Thong Nhat Hall, Ho Chi Minh City.
In his welcoming speech, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc expressed that Ho Chi Minh City is honored to be entrusted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism with the responsibility of hosting the 24th Vietnam Film Festival - the largest cinema event in the country in 2025.

This year's event is even more meaningful as Ho Chi Minh City has just been officially recognized by UNESCO as a "Global Creative City of Cinema" on October 31, 2025.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc, this title is not a destination but a starting point, placing on the city's shoulders a greater responsibility in working with the network of creative cities to promote sustainable development based on culture and creativity.
Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc believes that the 24th Vietnam Film Festival is an opportunity for Ho Chi Minh City to demonstrate that commitment, while affirming its position as the country's cinema center and its role as an active member of the Global Creative Cities Network.
On behalf of UNESCO, Mr. Jonathan Baker, Head of UNESCO Office in Vietnam, expressed his honor to announce that Ho Chi Minh City has been officially recognized as a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of cinema.
Mr. Jonathan Baker affirmed that this title is not only the result of an excellent profile, but also a testament to the city's strong commitment to placing creativity at the heart of its sustainable development strategy, as well as recognizing culture as an essential pillar for a dynamic, resilient and inclusive urban future.
Ho Chi Minh City has demonstrated strong leadership, with close collaboration between cultural institutions, universities, the creative community and private partners, all working together to build a vibrant, innovative and forward-looking film ecosystem…

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 24th Vietnam Film Festival, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong emphasized that this Film Festival takes place in the vibrant atmosphere of Ho Chi Minh City - a large economic , cultural and creative city. This is an important event for the film industry, honoring outstanding works and affirming the enduring vitality of Vietnamese cinema.
The 24th Festival brought together 144 films of many genres, reflecting the filmmakers' innovative efforts from theme to storytelling.
In the context of globalization and the strong development of digital technology, the film industry is facing new opportunities and challenges. Mr. Ta Quang Dong said that cinema needs to be invested more in creativity, perfecting policy mechanisms, developing high-quality human resources, expanding international cooperation and strongly applying science and technology in film production and dissemination.
Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong affirmed that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will continue to accompany agencies, localities, filmmakers and businesses to build and develop a modern, unique and deeply integrated Vietnamese cinema industry.
At the Opening Ceremony, the Organizing Committee announced 3 Jury panels for the film categories: Feature Film, Documentary - Science Film and Animation Film.
Before the opening ceremony, a red carpet event took place, with the presence of the cast of the films "Red Rain", "Death Battle in the Sky", "Tunnel: Sun in the Dark"...

After the opening ceremony, many artists performed art shows with film soundtracks and a series of songs: "What's more beautiful", "The sun in the dark", "After the refusal", "Phu Dong Thien Vuong", "Because you deserve it"... The program had the participation of famous artists: Meritorious Artist Cao Minh, Ha Tran; Duc Phuc, Orange, Hoang Dung, Nguyen Hung, Han Sara...
