Mr. Nguyen Loc Ha (middle) and leaders of Tan Uyen City visited and gave gifts to Mrs. Tran Tuyet Ngoc's family in Bach Dang commune, who had just received financial support from the local authorities to repair her house.

Joy of groundbreaking day

On the morning of March 31, the People's Committee of Tan Phuoc Khanh Ward, Tan Uyen City held a groundbreaking ceremony to repair the house of Ms. Truong Thi Thanh, Group 7, Khanh Loi Quarter. The house has a total area of 62 square meters, with walls, paint, floor tiles, new doors and windows, roof raising, and bathroom renovation, with a total cost of 85 million VND. Of which, the ward mobilized 60 million VND, and the family contributed 25 million VND.

On the day the local government supported her to renovate her house after many years of deterioration and lack of amenities, Ms. Thanh emotionally shared: “Without the local government’s support, I don’t know when my family would have a decent house. A few years ago, my family saved up a few tens of millions but it was only enough to build bricks and roof with corrugated iron to protect from the sun and rain.”

Over 50 years old, Ms. Thanh and her husband do not have stable jobs and are in difficult circumstances. Ms. Thanh works as a helper in a pottery workshop, earning about 200,000 VND per day, but the work is irregular. Her husband works as a tree cutter. The burden on the family is even heavier as Ms. Thanh has to take care of 2 young grandchildren.

Over the past week, many communes and wards in Tan Uyen City have simultaneously started construction and repairing houses for poor households under the program "Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses". The program has brought joy to many families, including single and disadvantaged people. A typical example is Ms. Pham Thi Huong, Tan Long Hamlet, Bach Dang Commune.

Recently, when the Steering Committee for "Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses" of the city started the construction of a new house and supported Ms. Huong with 105 million VND in construction money, she cried with joy. "So from now on, I no longer have to worry about heavy rains and strong winds like before. I am very happy. Thank you to the provincial and city leaders for caring and creating shelters for disadvantaged families, so that they can have better living conditions."

Many communes and wards have "reached the finish line"

The program "Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses" in Binh Duong province was directed by the provincial leaders to be completed before June 30. In Tan Uyen city, this program has received special attention from the city leaders, who have accelerated the progress and are expected to complete before April 30. Currently, some communes and wards such as Bach Dang and Tan Phuoc Khanh have completed the program.

Ms. Bui Ngoc Huong, Vice Chairman of Tan Phuoc Khanh Ward People's Committee, said: "Caring for people's lives and implementing social security well has always been of interest to and directed by the city's leaders. Every year, the Ward People's Committee reviews the construction of "Great Unity" houses, "Love" houses, "Red Cross" houses... so the number of leaky and temporary houses is very small. In 2024, the ward mobilized philanthropists to build 2 new houses and repair 1 house. In early 2025, when joining hands with the whole country to "Eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses", the locality only had 2 houses to repair and completed the work. The work of supporting people to have houses does not stop here. The locality continues to monitor, review and have plans to support poor and disadvantaged households when their houses are degraded in the coming time, as well as carry out other care activities".

Meanwhile, Ms. Bui Kim Hoa, Vice Chairman of Tan Hiep Ward People's Committee, said that this time, the Ward People's Committee will repair 3 houses for poor households. Of which, socialized resources will repair one house with an amount of more than 60 million VND; the remaining 2 houses will be repaired each with about 50 million VND from the "For the Poor" Fund. Currently, the Ward People's Committee has made an estimate and will start construction in the coming days, and will complete before April 30 this year according to the direction of the city leaders...

Joining hands with the whole country to "Eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" for poor households, from the beginning of 2025, the leaders of Tan Uyen City have directed the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of the city to coordinate with communes and wards to review the number of households in need of support. Through the review in the city, there are currently 29 cases in need of housing support. Of which, 17 households need support to repair and build new houses, 12 cases do not have houses and do not have land. For households repairing and building new houses, the locality has planned to complete the implementation before April 30. To date, 7 houses have been started. For households without houses and land, the locality has arranged to buy social housing for 9 cases in Phu Chanh ward; the remaining 3 cases do not have the need because they want to live with their children and grandchildren...
