On July 28, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced additional enrollment targets at 37 public high schools in Region 1 (formerly Ho Chi Minh City), with a total of 2,340 additional enrollment targets for the 2025-2026 school year.
From July 30 to August 4, schools will receive applications from students. On August 8, the list of additional successful candidates will be announced.
This year, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City stipulates that the subjects for additional enrollment in grade 10 are students who fail all 3 wishes. Each student can only register for additional enrollment in 1 school and cannot change after submitting the application.
Students must have a total admission score greater than or equal to the standard score of the first choice of the public high school they want to apply for.
According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the additional recruitment aims to ensure that students in the city have a place to study, while also supporting schools to complete their assigned enrollment targets.
This also demonstrates the flexibility and high adaptability in education policy, suitable for each locality, especially the suburban areas. The core goal is to leave no student behind, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to access public general education.
This is the third year that Ho Chi Minh City has organized additional recruitment for grade 10 for public high schools that are short of enrollment quotas. However, the results have not been as expected, with many schools still short of enrollment quotas.
Specifically, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 1,014 students were admitted while the target was nearly 4,000. In the 2024-2025 school year, the number of admitted students was 1,400 out of a total target of 2,203.
In the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will have nearly 89,000 junior high school graduates, including 76,435 candidates applying for grade 10. With 70,070 targets for public high schools.
