In 1984, the School was transferred from the Ministry of Transport to the Ministry of Universities and Vocational Secondary Schools (now the Ministry of Education and Training). Regardless of which governing body it is under, the School has always maintained its identity, asserted its pioneering role in training and scientific research, and made important contributions to the development of the national transport system. From the Thong Nhat railway, Thang Long bridge, Chuong Duong bridge to National Highway 1A... all bear the mark of the intelligence, creativity and dedication of generations of cadres, lecturers and Transport engineers.

Entering the period of innovation, the University of Transport quickly integrated itself into the great wave of transformation of the nation, opening a new and comprehensive development stage.

The school is constantly expanding its training scale, diversifying its professions, forming a postgraduate training system, building research institutes, training and technology transfer centers, and expanding international cooperation to access the world's advanced knowledge and technology.

In particular, in 1990, the School established Campus II in Ho Chi Minh City, now the Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the University of Transport - marking a strategic development step, contributing to training high-quality human resources for the Southern region, expanding the influence and position of the school nationwide.
