Imprints from the early days of construction
Half a century ago, in the early days after liberation, Kon Tum High School, the predecessor of today's Kon Tum High School, started the 1975-1976 school year with only 14 teachers and 280 students. Seven simple classrooms, with many lacking facilities, but the love for the profession and the desire to spread knowledge of the teachers laid the first bricks for the 50-year journey of building.
From that foundation, the school in the Central Highlands grew up and matured with the development of the country. The school's name changed over time, from Kon Tum High School to Kon Tum High School (school year 1985-1986) to Kon Tum High School (school year 2015-2016), but the studious spirit and the will to excel of teachers and students remained intact.
In particular, since 1992, when Gia Lai - Kon Tum province was separated, the school invested in building a row of 20 classrooms, renovating the campus, then adding another floor to meet the increasing number of students.
In the following years, the Provincial People's Committee will continue to invest in the headquarters building, council room, laboratory - practice area, and multi-purpose building. In 2024, a modern library meeting level 2 standards will be put into use, contributing to the completion of facilities, meeting the requirements of educational innovation in the new period.
The teaching staff is the soul of the school and has also matured through each stage. From 14 teachers in the beginning, Kon Tum High School now has 95 cadres, teachers and staff. Notably, 100% of teachers have met training standards, 18 have masters, 2 teachers are studying for postgraduate degrees, more than 40% have achieved the title of excellent teachers at the provincial level.
Through the changes of society, generations of teachers still share the same spirit: Solidarity, dedication, and persistent innovation to respond to the trust of parents and people. Notably, by 2025, the school has 9 teachers awarded the noble title of "Excellent Teacher" by the President, including: Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Nguyen Sy Thu, Van Duc Thao, Nguyen Hoa, Nguyen Huu Don, Phan Duc and Ms. Bui Thi Tan Chau, Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam and Ms. Pham Nhu Da Thao.

If the teaching staff is the root, then the students are the sweet fruit of the half-century journey. From 280 students in the first years, by the 2005-2006 school year, the school reached its largest scale with 46 classes and 2,108 students. In the 2025-2026 school year, the school has 1,419 students in 35 classes. Over the past half-century, nearly 30,000 students have grown up under this school, with an almost absolute annual high school graduation rate. Many students have become university valedictorians, won national prizes, won 30/4 Olympic medals, or stepped out into the world as researchers and university lecturers.
Continuing the tradition of studiousness, stepping firmly into the new era

During those 50 years, Kon Tum High School was not only the “cradle of knowledge” but also a place to cultivate personality. The tradition of studiousness became a continuous source, permeating each generation of students.
Master Nguyen Hai Nam, Principal of the school, shared: The spirit of respecting teachers is preserved as the core value of the school, so that each lesson is not only about acquiring knowledge but also a lesson in being a human being. School discipline is not a deterrent but self-awareness, respect for oneself and the community. Kindness is also nurtured through volunteer movements, supporting disadvantaged students, and helping people in remote areas.
Along with that, the school always plays a pioneering role in social movements, contributing to spreading a civilized lifestyle among students. Many generations of teachers of the school later became leaders and managers. As of 2025, there are 45 staff and teachers of the school holding leadership positions in many units inside and outside the education sector. This is a clear demonstration of the quality of training and human resource development of the school.
Those efforts have been recognized with many noble awards: The school met national standards in the 2001-2010 period and continues to meet national standards level 2 in the 2020-2025 period. Not only that, this is also the first high school in Kon Tum province (old) to be recognized as meeting educational quality standards. From the 1992-1993 school year up to now, the school and its organizations have received 106 awards, including the Second-class Labor Medal, Third-class Labor Medal, Emulation Flags from the Prime Minister, ministries, branches and 86 other certificates of merit.
In the past 10 years, the school has always maintained a rate of over 80% of students achieving Good - Excellent academic performance, over 98% achieving Good - Excellent conduct; the high school graduation rate in the past 25 years has reached 99.15% and in the last 6 years has reached 100%.
Kon Tum High School is also continuously in the group of schools with high university entrance exam scores, on the list of 149 high schools nationwide that are given priority for admission by Ho Chi Minh City National University.
“Entering a new stage, Kon Tum High School continues to promote innovation in teaching methods, applying information technology, personalizing the curriculum, and gradually approaching advanced educational models to train global citizens. The school's goal is not only to impart knowledge but also to nurture people with personality, responsibility and integration capacity,” said Master Nguyen Hai Nam.
Half a century has passed, the name “Kon Tum High School” is still mentioned by the people with all affection and pride. That 50-year journey is a journey of faith, aspiration to rise up, of generations of teachers and students who have written a beautiful story together. And from that foundation, the school continues to open new pages, steadfast, confident and full of expectations for the road ahead.
