National Highway 24 through Mang Den has cracks, subsidence, and the road surface is warped by a meter.

After two months of continuous rain, Highway 24 (the main artery connecting the east and west of Quang Ngai) cracked and seriously sank at the section passing through Mang Den commune. The worst point was the road surface was warped by a meter.

On November 15, Mr. Nguyen Phuc Nhan - Director of the Department of Construction of Quang Ngai - said he was on the scene to inspect the serious subsidence on National Highway 24, passing through Mang Den commune.

Accordingly, at km112+200 of National Highway 24 (in Mang Den commune), a crack appeared about 100m long, with the road surface rising 1.2m at one point.

The current situation is that one side of the road is completely deformed, only ensuring traffic on the remaining half of the road.

According to Mr. Nhan, this is the main route connecting the east (old Quang Ngai province) and the west (old Kon Tum province). Therefore, the traffic volume is very high. After the province merger, the traffic volume is many times larger than before.

For now, to ensure traffic safety, the authorities have put up warning signs. People are on duty to regulate traffic. The authorities require vehicles to obey instructions and reduce speed according to instructions and signs at the scene.

According to local residents, the subsidence site has weak geological foundations. This is the point being widened to upgrade Highway 24 based on the old roadbed.

At this location, there was subsidence before but it was less severe and was fixed, ensuring traffic. Until now, the roadbed has cracked and subsided more seriously.

Regarding long-term solutions, the Quang Ngai Department of Construction is coordinating with local authorities and functional units to determine the cause, and urgently develop a plan to handle and repair the damage as soon as possible to ensure smooth traffic.

"This is a vital route, so I will personally go to the scene to inspect and have a plan to handle the problem as soon as possible," said Mr. Nhan.
