During these historic days of May, the Provincial Museum welcomed many groups of guests, students, and residents. In April 2025 alone, the Provincial Museum welcomed nearly 3,000 visitors to visit and study historical artifacts, including artifacts and documents related to the Dien Bien Phu campaign.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Chi Lang ward, Lang Son city expressed his emotion when he witnessed the artifacts: "The deepest impression I had was the image of the simple, rustic bicycle used in the Dien Bien Phu campaign. Through the introduction of the tour guide, I learned that these vehicles contributed to bringing more than 25,000 tons of weapons, food, and provisions to serve the Dien Bien Phu campaign. It helped me imagine a difficult but heroic period of the nation."
The bicycle is just one of nearly 200 historical artifacts related to the Dien Bien Phu campaign that the Provincial Museum is preserving. Among them are many typical artifacts such as: the K54 gun of Mr. Be Chu Lang, a veteran who directly participated in the Dien Bien Phu campaign; documents of the enemy in 1954; diaries of soldiers participating in the campaign; books and newspapers written about the Dien Bien Phu victory...
In particular, artifacts related to the contribution of Lang Son people in the Dien Bien Phu campaign such as: the bronze pot of Mr. To Quang Hoa in Tau Lin, Xuat Le commune, Cao Loc district used to cook rice to supply secret cadres; the bamboo hat of Mr. Dinh Viet Di, Xuat Le commune, Cao Loc district woven for guerrillas to use in combat in the 1950s; saws and hammers (of Mr. Vi Kien Xuong and To Vuong Nguyen in Ban Ranh, Xuat Le commune, Cao Loc district used to repair weapons for soldiers, 1947-1950)... These artifacts are vivid evidence of the strength of the great national unity bloc, a key factor in the historic victory.
To promote the value of these precious historical documents, in recent years, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has directed the Provincial Museum to carry out research and collect documents and artifacts related to historical events in general and the Dien Bien Phu victory in particular.
Mr. Nong Duc Kien, Director of the Provincial Museum, said: We have promoted the research and collection of documents and artifacts related to historical events in general and the Dien Bien Phu campaign in particular, and put them into preservation. At the same time, the museum has digitized image materials and uploaded them to the electronic news page; selected typical artifacts to display in the space with the theme "Lang Son during the resistance war against the French" on the 2nd floor of the exhibition house to introduce to visitors. In addition, we also use artifacts to serve thematic exhibitions at the museum and mobile exhibitions in districts and cities.
Every year, educational institutions, agencies and units have coordinated with the museum to organize sightseeing and historical learning activities. In particular, on the occasion of the annual Dien Bien Phu victory anniversary, the provincial museum has organized useful and meaningful activities such as: mobile exhibitions in districts and cities; organizing competitions to learn about history...
Visiting the artifacts of the Dien Bien Phu campaign at the Provincial Museum is not only a simple historical learning activity but also a journey to foster patriotism and national pride for each person.
