Deploying preparations to welcome and work with the European Commission's inspection delegation

On September 28, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) held an online conference with 28 coastal provinces and cities to deploy plans to prepare for welcoming and working with the 4th European Commission (EC) Inspection Delegation on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Attending at the provincial bridge was comrade Le Huyen, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

According to the working program, the EC inspection team will visit Vietnam to conduct field inspections and work from October 10 to 18, 2023, to assess the implementation results of the EC's recommendations in the "Yellow Card Warning" notice dated October 23, 2017. In particular, focusing on the control of fishing vessels violating foreign waters, controlling fishing vessels entering and leaving ports and operating at sea; controlling imported raw materials, and tracing the origin of aquatic products from exploitation.

The conference listened to reports from specialized sectors under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on preparations for receiving the delegation, work content as requested, coordination to ensure security during the working days of the EC inspection delegation, and some localities reported on the results achieved, difficulties and obstacles in implementing the fight against IUU fishing.

Concluding the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that although the results of the implementation of the task of combating IUU fishing in the past time have had positive changes; however, there are still many shortcomings and limitations that have not been thoroughly handled. In order to facilitate the activities of the EC Inspection Team to ensure thoughtfulness, efficiency, compliance with foreign policy and achieve good results, it is recommended that sectors and localities coordinate to develop detailed plans and scenarios according to the assigned contents and requirements; prepare complete documents, data, and means to ensure the appraisal work; provide data on the output of imported seafood through international traffic ports. Step up propaganda, raise awareness of fishermen; strengthen inspection and supervision of the number of vessels entering and leaving ports, fishing logs, and voyage monitoring equipment.
