(VLO) That was the topic of the workshop organized by the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Vinh Long in coordination with Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics - Vinh Long Branch on November 24.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province currently has nearly 18,000 hectares of oranges, concentrated in the three districts of Tra On, Tam Binh and Vung Liem, the rest are scattered in other districts in the province. In recent years, the movement of farmers growing oranges on rice fields has developed widely in many places in the province.
This is considered a phenomenon of "hot growth" because the immediate profit is very high, on average 1 hectare from 500-600 million VND.
However, there was a time when the price of oranges dropped sharply, only about 2,000 VND/kg. Therefore, in addition to paying attention to cultivation techniques to ensure sufficient technical factors, stable product output, and effectively solving the problem of soil pollution and living environment, it is necessary to control planning to prevent farmers from rapidly increasing the area.
At the workshop, delegates presented and discussed issues on the current situation and development orientation of pomelos in the province; solutions to overcome land degradation for pomelos; difficulties faced by organic pomelo farmers; solutions to increase the value of agricultural products in a circular manner.
