The referees were caught up in controversy from the Hanoi FC coaching staff.

V.League continues to witness another unbelievable incident from referees, although it is not a "warped" whistle that directly affects the situation on the field. In the 84th minute of the match between Song Lam Nghe An and Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen Kim Viet Bao refused to allow SLNA to put center back Kyle Colonna on the field to replace center back Nguyen Thanh Chung.

The reason given by Mr. Bao is that Hanoi FC already has Pierre Lamothe on the field. This midfielder is a foreign player of Vietnamese origin (overseas Vietnamese player) but does not have citizenship. Therefore, if the capital team wants to bring Colonna in, they must replace Lamothe because VPF stipulates that only one overseas Vietnamese player without citizenship can be used on the field.

After much debate between Hanoi FC coaching staff and referee Nguyen Kim Viet Bao, the away team decided to put Dao Van Nam on the field to replace Thanh Chung.

The main referee team in charge of the match includes Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh; 2 assistants including Mr. Hoang Duy Tuat and Tran Van Hai; the table referee is Mr. Nguyen Kim Viet Bao. The VAR referee is Mr. Truong Hong Vu and the AVAR referee is Le Duc Thuan.

According to Article 10, Section 5 - Regulations on registration stage and list of participants in the Tournament, participating clubs are allowed to register a minimum of 18 players to a maximum of 30 players, including: a minimum of 18 players with professional player contracts; a minimum of 3 goalkeepers; a maximum of 1 Vietnamese player of foreign origin; a maximum of 2 foreign players of Vietnamese origin (overseas Vietnamese); a maximum of 3 foreign players.

Pursuant to Clause a - Article 12, Section 5 on Match Registration and Substitutions in the Match, in each match, the club shall register a list of at least 16 to a maximum of 20 players, including: 11 official players (including 1 goalkeeper); at least 5 to a maximum of 9 reserve players (including at least 1 goalkeeper); a maximum of 3 foreign players.

Only players whose names are on the list confirmed at the pre-match technical meeting will be registered to play in the match when they are confirmed eligible to play by VFF.

Thus, two registered overseas Vietnamese players can appear on the field at the same time. Referee Nguyen Kim Viet Bao broke the rules.
