The incident occurred when referee Tran Dinh Thinh was running in the last turn. He showed signs of dizziness, difficulty breathing and collapsed. The medical team immediately performed first aid on the spot and then took referee Tran Dinh Thinh to the emergency room. To prepare for the physical test, the organizing committee arranged 4 ambulances, on standby right at the Hanoi Athletics Palace.

Despite intensive treatment at the hospital, referee Tran Dinh Thinh could not survive. Referee Tran Dinh Thinh's colleagues were shocked by this great loss. Throughout the day of August 3, VFF, VPF and the Vietnamese referee community prayed for referee Tran Dinh Thinh to overcome the critical condition. Referee Tran Dinh Thinh's father and wife also flew from Dong Nai to Hanoi yesterday afternoon.
But sadly, the miracle did not come. Vietnamese football bid farewell to a good referee. Last night, the referees and assistant referees were all present at the hospital. When the doctor announced the sad news at night, everyone was in great pain. The family of referee Tran Dinh Thinh and the VFF and VPF decided to arrange a special car to transport the referee's body back to Dong Nai that same night. The VFF, VPF, and the referees bid farewell to their devoted colleague back to his homeland.

Since Hanoi is in the hot season, the organizers have arranged a physical fitness test from 5am on August 3. In order to create favorable conditions and ensure the best physical condition for the referees, the Organizing Committee (OC) has agreed on a plan with all the referees to prepare and arrange the testing time to start early in the morning, avoiding the effects of the hot weather in Hanoi in recent days. In addition, the medical work has also been carefully prepared by the Organizing Committee with 4 ambulances and 4 medical teams on duty at the testing point to be ready to respond to any arising situations.
The car carrying referee Tran Dinh Thinh traveled from Hanoi to Dong Nai that night. Also traveling was a car carrying representatives of VFF and VPF to help the family with the funeral. The VPF office in the south will also come to the referee's house this morning to take care of everything.
In addition, to be eligible to participate in the physical examination, referees attending the training must ensure that they have health examination papers as prescribed in Circular 32/2023/TT-BYT. Before the physical examination, the referees' medical indicators were very good, without any abnormal signs. Therefore, they were allowed to undergo the physical examination.
Referee Tran Dinh Thinh (born in 1982, from Dong Nai), was once known as one of the "yellow card kings" in V-League 2024-2025, drawing up to 72 yellow cards throughout the season. He was awarded the Bronze Whistle title for the 2023-2024 season. And was recently awarded the Silver Whistle title for the 2024-2025 season.
