China buys a lot, Bac Giang lychee price is 3 times higher than last year

Speaking with Thanh Nien on the afternoon of June 12, Mr. Tran Quang Tan, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Giang province, said that by 5 p.m. the same day, the locality had consumed 57,601 tons of early-ripening lychees and main-season lychees.

The highest price of lychee on June 12 was up to 80,000 VND/kg.

Of which, domestic lychee consumption reached over 35,170 tons, and exports reached 21,882 tons. Among export markets, China is the country with the largest consumption. By the afternoon of June 12, Bac Giang had exported 21,718 tons of lychee to China through road border gates in Lang Son and Lao Cai.

Thanh Nien reports that in recent days, the price of lychee exported to China in Bac Giang has increased day by day. Compared to the beginning of June, the price per kilogram has increased by more than 10,000 VND.

On June 12, lychee prices were being purchased at 75,000 - 80,000 VND/kg, 2 - 3 times higher than the same period in 2023.

For the main crop of lychee, on the same day, in Giap Son commune (Luc Ngan district), many gardeners are selling at 80,000 - 85,000 VND/kg. This is also an unprecedented high price for early-season lychee in Luc Ngan district.

Ms. Do Thanh Tinh, owner of a lychee garden in Hong Giang commune (Luc Ngan district), said that the lychee exported to China is the Thanh Ha hybrid variety with large fruit, beautiful red skin when ripe, and is being bought the most by traders.

"Early-ripening lychees are becoming scarce. Traders are going everywhere to deposit and collect goods. In recent days, farmers no longer need to transport lychees to sell. It is forecasted that the price of main-season lychees will continue to increase," said Ms. Tinh.

According to the People's Committee of Luc Ngan District, this locality currently has 126 lychee purchasing points; more than 1,000 drying and processing kilns for dried lychees. Due to this year's poor lychee crop, some weighing stations have had to temporarily stop operating for days due to lack of goods. Prices are increasing day by day, while the demand for fresh lychees is very high, so many drying kilns will lack raw materials.

Also due to the increase in lychee prices, the export output to distant markets this year has decreased sharply. As of June 12, lychee exports to Japan reached only 21 tons, the US 23 tons, Europe 48 tons, Australia 33 tons...

After Bac Giang, Hai Duong also recorded a record price for Thanh Ha litchi. The best litchi in Hai Duong has the highest selling price of 85,000 VND/kg, while at the same time in 2023 it was only 60,000 VND/kg.
