On May 21, the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) said that this unit had compiled and sent documents of 1,604 durian growing areas and 314 durian packing facilities to the General Administration of Customs of China, and was approved for an additional 829 growing areas and 131 packing facilities.
Currently, Vietnam has a total of 1,469 growing areas and 188 durian packing facilities licensed to export to China.
China's approval of 1,000 new growing areas and packing facilities will facilitate increased durian exports to the Chinese market in the coming time.
Localities and businesses need to proactively take advantage of this opportunity, while ensuring strict compliance with regulations on plant quarantine and food safety in order to export sustainably.
The Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection also said that currently the country has 12 Cadmium testing rooms and 8 O-yellow testing rooms qualified to test durian for export to China.
The department also said that since signing the protocol, more than 90% of Vietnam's durian output has been consumed in the Chinese market.
The biggest characteristic of the Chinese market is that it is unpredictable, regulations often change quickly and immediately, making it very difficult to respond.
Along with that, Chinese traders are deeply involved in the durian purchasing and distribution chain, even in Vietnam.
The Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection also emphasized that China's technical requirements are very high, increasingly raising technical barriers, especially food safety requirements.
Many businesses, growing areas, and packaging facilities only care about and attach importance to registering codes for growing areas and durian packaging facilities, without paying attention to maintaining growing areas and packaging facilities that meet the technical requirements specified in the protocol.
The situation of counterfeiting, buying and selling codes of growing areas and packaging facilities still occurs, leading to the inability to trace the origin of the product when needed. In particular, the quality of durian cannot be controlled.
Minister Do Duc Duy is about to chair a conference on durian industry development.
As planned, on May 24 in Dak Lak, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy and leaders of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee will chair an in-person and online conference on sustainable durian industry development.
At this conference, delegates will hear an overview report on the production situation and market opening for Vietnamese durian, a report on the consumption situation and the food safety testing system for exported durian.
At the same time, exchange and discuss to remove difficulties and obstacles of localities, businesses and farmers in producing, processing and exporting durian nationwide.
