US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will visit India ahead of the transfer of power in the US. Donald Trump will officially become the 47th owner of the White House on January 20.

The Hindustan Times quoted unnamed sources as saying that the visit has not been officially announced by either side. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval will co-chair a meeting to review the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET). The initiative marks the culmination of the strategic partnership’s joint efforts to develop advanced military hardware, set standards for emerging technologies, and enhance cooperation in developing telecommunications and next-generation chips.

This will be the third round of iCET negotiations since they were launched in January 2023. Mr. Sullivan had visited India for the second iCET meeting in June 2024. The two sides agreed on the next steps in their strategic technology partnership and committed to removing barriers to strategic trade.

During the two-day visit, the US National Security Advisor is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, and deliver a speech on the theme "US and India: Building a Shared Future" at an event in New Delhi.

The visit comes more than a week after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Mr Sullivan in the US on December 27. The Indian foreign minister also met Mr Michael Waltz, a Florida congressman picked by President-elect Trump to be the next National Security Advisor.
