(CTTĐTBP) - On the occasion of attending the ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) in Ho Chi Minh City, on the morning of April 28, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission led a central working delegation to offer flowers and incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs at the national historical site of Tau O - Xom Ruong checkpoint, in Tan Khai town, Hon Quan district.
Attending the ceremony were alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Ton Ngoc Hanh; former member of the Party Central Committee, former Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Tan Hung; representatives of leaders of departments, branches and units.
In a solemn atmosphere, with a sincere heart and infinite gratitude, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia offered incense, flowers and observed a moment of silence to commemorate the heroic martyrs who died for the independence of the Fatherland. After that, the delegation lit incense sticks at the altar of Uncle Ho, General Vo Nguyen Giap and the heroic martyrs.
The relic “Tau O - Xom Ruong checkpoint” was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2012. This is the place that marked the heroic fighting days of our army and people to protect and maintain the liberated area of Loc Ninh during the Nguyen Hue campaign in 1972.
During 5 months, from April 5, 1972 to August 28, 1972, on the nearly 20km long road from Can Le to Nam Chon Thanh with Tau O as the main checkpoint, the 7th Division together with the local army and people fought steadfastly to "set up a strong checkpoint, block and hold the position for a long time, not allowing vehicles from below to go up or from above to go down", making it impossible for the enemy's infantry and mechanized infantry to cross the battlefield. The final victory belonged to us, but here, more than 1,000 officers and soldiers of the 7th Division, the 4th Corps and thousands of outstanding sons from all over the country had heroically fallen or left part of their bodies on the battlefield; the blood and bones of our fathers and brothers had built up the homeland of Binh Phuoc to become more and more beautiful and affectionate.
Also this morning, Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia will visit the memorial complex of “Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen’s journey to save the country” in Area X16, Loc Tan Commune, Loc Ninh District. The delegation will also offer incense and pay tribute at the Ta Thiet Special National Relic Site and present gifts to outstanding policy families in Loc Ninh District./.
