On November 5, the School Council and Board of Directors of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine had a meeting with the press after recent scandals about scientific integrity of some individuals at the school that have caused a stir in public opinion.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Trong Hao - Chairman of the Board of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, on October 20, the school received an email accusing "some individuals from the school" of committing fraud in research, violating the principles of scientific integrity.
Immediately after receiving the letter, on October 22, the school sent an email inviting the whistleblower to provide information, documents, and evidence. However, this person did not come.
Because the complaint letter was sent anonymously, according to Mr. Hao, the school could not handle it according to the procedures prescribed in Article 25 of the 2018 Law on Denunciation and Circular 05/2021/TT-TTCP.
However, because the content of the accusation is related to a number of individuals under the management scope, the school's leaders have proactively reviewed and verified the above accusations to ensure that training and scientific research activities at the school comply with legal regulations.
Associate Professor Hao also said that the school has drafted the "Regulations on Scientific Integrity" and is seeking opinions from units within the school to issue it in the near future.
On October 28, the school decided to establish a 7-member working group headed by Dr. Pham Quoc Dung - Vice Principal, in charge of reviewing scientific integrity.
However, shortly after its establishment, a member on the list withdrew. Realizing that some criteria were not suitable, the school added another member. The problem became serious when individuals in the group were constantly attacked, accused of violating scientific integrity... causing everyone to be under pressure.
This suspicion was raised in the context of the school being "noisy" from the 24-year-old candidate Au Nhat Huy being admitted to the doctoral program in Internal Medicine of the school. Notably, this candidate is the child of Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Khanh Tuong - Head of the Faculty of Medicine, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine.
