In the personnel report, the school said it has 1,026 lecturers and researchers, including 9 professors, 111 associate professors, and 264 doctors. The rate of professors and associate professors is 11.7% and doctors is 37.43%.
Regarding scientific research projects, from 2000 to May 2025, there were 8,250 topics at all levels, including: 12 national level, 40 ministerial level, 21 NAFOSTED, 165 provincial/municipal level, 8,012 grassroots level. Regarding international cooperation, as of March 2025, there are 39 projects with a total budget of over 428 billion VND, cooperating with countries such as the Netherlands, Sweden, Canada, the US, Japan, and South Korea.
The school has won many prestigious domestic awards: VIFOTEC (27), Ta Quang Buu (1), Vietnamese Talents (2), Vietnamese Medical Achievements (7), Golden Globe (7); 3 exclusive patents, 2 useful solutions.
Analyzing strengths, the school possesses a high-quality human resource team; has outstanding scientific publications; has a strong international cooperation network; and its reputation is affirmed through prestigious domestic and international awards.
However, there are also weaknesses such as the ratio of professors, associate professors and doctors is still low compared to the requirements of international research universities; technology transfer activities are limited, there is a lack of specific revenue data; facilities are not synchronous and limited compared to the scale of training and research.
The school also has many opportunities such as national policies supporting science and technology, digital transformation and innovation; trends in applying AI and modern medical technology (biology, personalized medicine, Big Data). Besides, there are challenges such as increasing competition with leading international schools in the region (Mahidol, NUS, ...); limited investment budget compared to large development goals; pressure to increase annual scientific publication growth.
In the strategic orientation for science and technology development in the period 2025-2030, the school has a vision of becoming the leading science and technology center in Southeast Asia, top 100 in Asia.
In 2025, the school approved the implementation of 22 potential topics, including 20 type B topics - maximum 300 million VND and 2 type A topics - maximum 1 billion VND.
Regarding strategic priorities in scientific research for the period 2025-2030, with a vision to 2045, Prof. Dr. Tran Diep Tuan, Chairman of the Council of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, proposed 3 strategic pillars, including: Overall thinking: Shifting from treatment to a comprehensive health care cycle; Breakthrough technology: Taking shortcuts with 4 groups of key technologies; "Made in" Vietnam solutions: Technology autonomy, serving Vietnamese people at reasonable prices.
