Dozens of lost patents of Nobel Prize founder found

Dozens of patents belonging to the Nobel Prize-winning scientist have been found in southern Sweden, nearly 50 years after they were lost.

According to AFP news agency, after nearly 50 years of being lost, more than a dozen patents of Swedish scientist Alfred Nobel have just been found in a house in southern Sweden, the Nobel Foundation said on September 3.

The documents were discovered by a couple in the Blekinge area in their summer cottage and were sent to auction, who then contacted the Nobel Foundation.

“These are really important documents that we want to preserve for future generations,” stressed Hanna Stjärne, director of the Nobel Foundation.

According to experts, the patents not only reveal the process of creating groundbreaking inventions but also show Mr. Nobel's life and work journey more than 150 years ago.

“It was overwhelming to open each page of the document, feeling the breath of life 150 years ago, how Nobel traveled around Europe, worked and created constantly,” Ms. Stjärne added.

Among these, one patent from 1865 is particularly notable because it marks the turning point when Nobel invented the detonator and went on to create dynamite two years later, according to Ulf Larsson, senior curator of the Nobel Museum.

"This is a rare artifact, marking a very early stage in Alfred Nobel's inventive career," he said.

Alfred Nobel (1833 - 1896) invented dynamite in 1867 and left a will to establish the Nobel Prize in 1895. He owned hundreds of patents in many countries, most of which revolved around methods of producing and applying explosive chemicals.

Known as " the world's richest vagabond", Nobel traveled extensively and lived in Sweden, Russia, Germany, France, the United States, England and Italy. To protect his invention and avoid having to transport nitroglycerin over long distances, he established companies in different countries.
