From a "work-study" school to a national standard school

Phan Thuc Truc High School was established in 1975, right after the country's reunification, with the original name of Yen Thanh Co-op High School. At that time, the school only had 29 staff, teachers, employees, 4 classes and nearly 200 students on a 5-hectare land next to Ve Vung dam, Dong Thanh commune (old Yen Thanh district).

In the early days, teachers and students went to class during the day and in the afternoon went to the forest to cut wood to build the school, raise goats and cows, grow rice, potatoes, cassava, and tea to improve their lives. Teachers lived in tents, students stayed in local people's houses or built their own accommodation. Life was poor but full of humanity, the spirit of overcoming difficulties, and love for the profession and school.

In August 1977, the school moved to Con Muong area, Bao Thanh commune, next to Highway 7. With the joint efforts of the local people, in just over three months, the first four rows of tiled houses were built. Ten years later, the school moved to its current location in Dong Muong hamlet, Cong Thanh commune, now Van Tu commune - marking a new step of development.

After many changes, in 1993, the school was officially named Phan Thuc Truc Secondary and High School, to commemorate the Nguyen Dynasty's Third Prize Winner - a famous person of his hometown.

From a few rows of level four houses, the school now has spacious facilities, complete with subject classrooms, library, dormitory, playground and green - clean - beautiful campus, best meeting the needs of teaching and learning.

In the 1999-2000 school year, the school began teaching English, and in the same year, the school was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Prime Minister . In the 2006-2007 period, the school was recognized as an advanced school, opening a new period of development. By the 2012-2013 school year, the school achieved national standards level 1 and after only 3 years (by 2024), it rose to national standards level 2 - a rare breakthrough speed.

25 years ago, there were candidates who passed the university entrance exam with scores of 28-29.5.

Over the past 50 years, Phan Thuc Truc High School has left its mark with many generations of excellent students, achieving high results in Nghe An province's excellent student exams and university entrance exams.

Notably, 20-25 years ago, many students of the school achieved university entrance exam scores from 28 to 29.5/30, among the group of candidates with the highest scores in the country - the pride not only of Yen Thanh but also of the entire Nghe An Education sector.

From this school, thousands of students have grown up to become professors, doctors, scientists, businessmen, and leaders in agencies and organizations across the country.

Entering a new stage of development, Phan Thuc Truc High School is constantly innovating to meet modern educational requirements. Facilities are invested synchronously; the teaching staff is young, dedicated, and highly qualified - including 29 masters, 48 ​​provincial-level excellent teachers, and more than 30 school-level excellent teachers.

The school currently has 5 professional groups and 1 administrative group, always focusing on innovating teaching methods, applying information technology, and implementing experiential and career-oriented activities to help students develop comprehensively.

In recent years, the rate of students passing university and college entrance exams has always been above 95%, many students were admitted to top schools such as Hanoi Medical University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, National Economics University, Foreign Trade University... Many classes have a 100% university entrance rate, some students are valedictorians nationwide.

Born in the years when the country had just been unified and was still facing many difficulties, rows of thatched houses with bamboo walls, homemade desks and chairs, teachers traveling dozens of kilometers of dirt roads to class, students studying under kerosene lamps - all became unforgettable memories of a difficult yet glorious time.

Half a century has passed, from a school in a semi-mountainous area with many difficulties, Phan Thuc Truc High School has grown strongly, becoming one of the typical educational units of Nghe An province - a land famous for its tradition of studiousness and spirit of overcoming difficulties. Overcoming hardships, teachers and students of the school still share the same aspiration to teach well - study well to bring glory to their homeland.

On the 50th anniversary of its establishment, Phan Thuc Truc High School received the Third Class Labor Medal for the second time - a noble award, recognizing the persistent efforts and great dedication of generations of teachers and students of the school over the past half century.
