On the morning of December 14, in Hanoi , Kim Dong Publishing House organized the launch of the financial comic book Be Smart with Money - Avoid Worry by author Le Thi Thuy Sen - Director of the Communications Department of the State Bank of Vietnam , illustrated by artist Bui Dinh Thang (Thang Fly).

This is the first unique and creative comic book about finance, banking and investment in Vietnam for Vietnamese families.

In her opening speech, Ms. Vu Thi Quynh Lien commented that Being Smart with Money - Avoiding Worry is one of the first Vietnamese books written about finance, illustrated in a unique comic book format.

According to Ms. Lien, this is one of the popular knowledge comics by Vietnamese authors, with the highest number of prints at Kim Dong Publishing House in 2023.

After a week of pre-orders, the book became a publishing phenomenon, with the largest number of pre-orders ever in the scientific knowledge book system of Kim Dong Publishing House.

"The process of composing and illustrating the book was a huge effort by the group of authors and artists. For a long time, the whole team worked without a day off, working under stress," Ms. Lien commented.

At the book launch, author Le Thi Thuy Sen said that the book coming to readers is a fate for her and the group of authors, carrying the desire to spread positive values ​​to the community.

With more than 20 years of working in the field of finance and banking, author Thuy Sen has witnessed many people encountering problems, even falling into poverty due to lack of knowledge and skills in financial and banking management.

"I think if people are equipped with financial knowledge, they will have a better life. That aspiration connects strangers, creating the soul of the book," said Ms. Sen.

Illustrator Thang Fly said that Being Smart with Money - Avoiding Worries is the book he completed in the shortest time (3 months) but with the largest amount of work in his creative career.

In Thang's group of five artists, two people could not stand the pressure of work and gave up. The remaining three pursued to the end, going through the most stressful moments.

“We constantly edit the drafts because information about inflation or bitcoin… changes frequently,” he shared.

Since holding the manuscript in his hands, Associate Professor Dr. Truong Gia Binh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Corporation - commented that the book is full of humanity, has the meaning of raising the national knowledge about finance, gives us many thoughts about life and "anyone who reads it will see themselves in it".

According to him, making money is difficult, but keeping it is even more difficult. Money is not safe in a safe, but lies in the intelligence of each person.

"Readers will gain knowledge, avoid financial and investment risks, live with more aspirations and responsibility for themselves, their families and society," said Mr. Binh.

As the editor of the work, Dr. Le Xuan Nghia, former member of the National Monetary Policy Advisory Council, said that the choice of comic book format demonstrated the "smartness" of author Thuy Sen.

Comics have made the complex issues of finance and currency simple. The ability to express concise language and emotions of images has created a book with a strong spreading effect.

He cited the story of a friend who is a famous doctor who worked for many years in the banking industry and was once scammed out of 470 million VND. This is proof that anyone can be a victim of financial fraud due to lack of general knowledge.

"I think this is a family book and part or all of its content can be included in the curriculum to educate children to respect and behave civilly with money because it is the value of their parents' labor," said Mr. Nghia.

Comics with the most Vietnamese folk songs, proverbs and idioms

These are also the contents that people are interested in today, with many concepts and useful information explained in an easy-to-understand way, suitable for many ages.

Each story is a lesson about finance and life. Not only to supplement knowledge, many stories are imbued with humanity, love for family, teammates, friends, teachers... touching the deep emotions of readers.

Above all, family affection, responsibility, and love between people are the connecting threads that help members overcome all difficulties and move towards peace and happiness.

Author Thuy Sen said the most difficult thing when writing a book is to convey knowledge about finance and banking in a way that anyone who reads it can see themselves in it, easy to understand, easy to apply, and rich in humanity and education to lead to good things.

The dry and specialized knowledge of finance and banking has been presented by the author through a very interesting and attractive comic format, suitable for many ages, turning "must read, should read" into "love to read".

This is also the first comic book with the most folk songs, proverbs, and idioms in Vietnam up to this point (with more than 80 sentences), inspiring love, compassion, love for the homeland, love for labor, such as:

"The world is rich because of diligence/If you have it but are lazy, you will have nothing left"; "Oh, everyone, hold a full bowl of rice/Each grain is fragrant, but each grain is bitter and painful"; "One golden grain of rice, nine drops of sweat"...
