The patient's crushed hand is recovering after surgery at Ha Dong General Hospital.

At the hospital, X-ray results showed that the patient's right hand had a fracture at the base of the first metacarpal; fractures at the base of the fifth and third fingers.

Doctors performed emergency surgery to treat the patient's wounds. During the surgery, the bone was fixed and 15 stitches were placed on the hand, due to the multiple injuries that crushed the right hand.

The surgery was successful, but doctors said the after-effects on his right hand would be severe because the firecracker exploded on his palm, crushing all the tendons, muscles, and bones. The wounds, even after treatment, still made it difficult for the patient to grasp, write, and perform other hand movements. At the same time, the patient had to undergo further surgeries to remove the bone fixation device and correct other after-effects.

According to the patient's family, through group fanpages, this teenager bought fireworks on the internet. While making fireworks following the group's instructions, the unfortunate accident occurred.

Dr. Nguyen Manh Truong (Department of Trauma Surgery, Ha Dong General Hospital), noted that accidents caused by firecrackers in general and homemade firecrackers in particular are very dangerous and can cause disability or even affect life. Especially at the end of the year, there are many addresses selling illegal firecracker materials on the internet.

"Families with children in their teens and young adults should pay attention to their children and not let them buy and use materials to make firecrackers. I hope schools and social organizations will actively promote and educate children about the dangers of firecrackers to avoid possible tragic accidents," said Dr. Truong.
