(NLDO) - Quang Binh with its majestic cave system and cool green mountains and forests has become an ideal destination for those who love adventure travel...
Be overwhelmed by the majesty of nature and be able to see the stars and the Milky Way from the Kong sinkhole
With its diverse terrain, Quang Binh offers visitors a dramatic journey of discovery , from the "Kong Sinkhole" to the primeval green forest - where nature blends with human courage.
Go beyond your limits
One of the most popular adventure activities in Quang Binh is the journey to explore the Kong sinkhole - a place known as the "death sinkhole". This sinkhole is located deep in the Phong Nha - Ke Bang primeval forest, with a depth of up to 450m, and only the bravest people dare to face the challenge of rappelling from the top of the hole to the bottom of the abyss.
In 1997, with the help of local people, a group of members of the British Cave Research Association (BCRA) - explored a cave system with 3 large caves in succession: Tiger Cave, Over Cave and Pygmy Cave. In the cave system, a large sinkhole appeared and is now called "Kong's Death Sinkhole".
Kong “Death Sinkhole” has a beauty that is both mysterious and stunningly magnificent. There are currently 2 ways to enter the sinkhole that visitors can choose: Swimming through Dai A cave or swinging down from the mouth of the hole on the low cliffs.
With a height of up to 450m from the highest peak to the bottom, Kong has become one of the deepest sinkholes on the planet with an underground river and a mysterious primeval forest inside. The reason this sinkhole is named Kong is because the shape seen from above looks very similar to the giant head of the monkey character King Kong in the famous blockbuster movie of the same name.

Cave exploration
With their unique structures, these caves take visitors on exciting journeys of discovery. Climbing over steep cliffs, crossing underground streams, or swimming inside the caves are unforgettable experiences.
Leaving the sinkhole, the journey continues to take visitors into the lush Phong Nha primeval forest, known as the "lungs" of Quang Binh. The forest here is a natural treasure with a diverse ecosystem and pristine landscape. With each step through the trails, visitors seem to be lost in a fairy tale world , where the sound of flowing streams blends with the chirping of birds, and the green canopy of the forest covers the entire path.
Especially, when night falls, visitors have the opportunity to camp in the wild, feel the fresh air and listen to the wind rustling through the forest canopy. Camping nights in the deep forest, surrounded by only the flickering fire and the starry sky, are the time for each person to immerse themselves in nature, forgetting all the worries of daily life.
After conquering the "death sinkhole" Kong, Ms. Pham Thu - a tourist from Ha Long City (Quang Ninh) affirmed: "When participating in adventure tourism, you need to carefully research the route and contact professional organizing companies or local people to ensure safety. The attraction of this type is exploring primeval forests and majestic caves, immersing yourself in nature."
Safety first
Quang Binh is known as the "Kingdom of Caves", famous for Son Doong Cave - the largest cave in the world. Adventure tourism is increasingly attracting many tourists, although the cost is often higher than other tours. With the complex terrain of mountains and rivers in Vietnam, organizing adventure tourism requires carefulness to ensure safety and proper investment to attract domestic and international tourists.
The Son Doong Cave exploration tour is the most expensive, at around $3,000 per person, and usually requires registration well in advance. An expert from Oxalis, the only company operating this tour, said: "Safety is always the top priority. The team of guides are all professionally trained and regularly tested."
Majestic view inside a cave while on an adventure tour
Tourist safety is always a top priority when participating in adventure tours in Quang Binh.
Oxalis's adventure tours only operate during the dry season (from mid-November to mid-September of the following year) and are temporarily suspended during the rainy season. In case of bad weather, Oxalis also has a backup plan and can flexibly change the route to ensure safety. The tour routes are specifically designed to suit the physical strength of the tourists and the weather conditions. Oxalis also ranks the tours according to the level of adventure so that tourists can choose the right tour.
Mr. Tran Cuong - Director of Netin Travel Company - the unit that exploits Cha Loi products, emphasized that before taking tourists on adventure tours, the company must carefully survey the locations and prepare full equipment such as lights, hats, and shoes to ensure safety. The team of guides and porters are regularly trained, and tourists need to be thoroughly instructed before joining the tour.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Le Luu Dung, Director of Jungle Boss Tours, said: "To ensure safety in adventure tourism, it is necessary to carefully screen the age and health of tourists, even if they have passed the initial medical examination. The company's medical team will check again when tourists arrive at the participating location."
Adventure tours are often expensive, as even with just one person, safety regulations and support must be strictly followed. Participants often want to push their limits and explore nature, but must undergo health checks and attend professional training classes before starting the journey.
Oxalis Adventure, one of the leading adventure tour operators in Quang Binh, said: "We always prioritize the safety of both our guests and staff. All Oxalis guides undergo extensive training to ensure we provide our guests with a great adventure experience that is also completely safe."
